A great cruise if your food expectations aren’t very high.

Review summary

If you are a foodie, this is definitely not your cruise. If you are looking for a fun getaway with friends it is an OK time. Nothing special. The last really great cruise I had on NCL was on the Norway, a beautiful ship, with outstanding spa and overall ambiance. It is sad to watch the NCL race to the bottom. We only took this because the dates worked for everyone. My future cruises will be a return to Cunard lines, truly outstanding cuisine and service there.

Embarkation

Very efficient embarkation process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Food was the most sub-par I’ve ever had on any cruise in 20 years. The first drink I ordered had no alcohol in it, just daiquiri mix, I know cuz I had no breakfast or lunch. At $11 a drink, that is unacceptable. Ordered a glass of Chardonnay the next night, it was real rot gut. Some of our friends had the drink package and were not happy with the quality of their drinks.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Activities were OK, nothing special.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Stage shows were pretty good and the DJ that handled the deck parties at night was amazing.

Children's Programs

Didn’t bring kids, don’t know anyone who did.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Our room steward was amazing and was compensated directly cuz I’ve heard from many cruise staff that pooled tips are not received. The service in the dining room was hit or miss. I’m really not a fan of NCL’s free style dining, I would rather have the same wait staff the entire cruise. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the buffet area. Staff cleared tables immediately and most areas were well stocked. The Indian and Asian foods on the buffet were great.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
I enjoyed the public areas of the ship for the most part. The Champagne bar was very nice, however it was staffed by only one very overwhelmed worker.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Our cabin was spotless, however there was an overwhelming odor of raw sewage that was reported to guest services twice with no remediation. They had someone spray down our cabin with air freshener which did nothing for the problem. We really should have demanded a different cabin as the ship was nowhere near full despite the sign at guest services. My roommate was not keen on relocating at first but wished that we had because it was making her ill. They never offered us another cabin.

Ship tip

This is a great group or girls trip ship, would not recommend for a couple looking for a romantic getaway.

Embarkation, we visited Epcot before the cruise.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

Ok experience, they ran out of some food at lunch. Fun photos taken by staff on arrival on island.

Nassau, Bahamas

No excursion, had fun shopping and horse carriage ride. Companion had hair braided. We also visited Key West, that was great.

Disembarkation

I like the new photo recognition, we were able to leave early and get on our way home.

You can request the same wait staff every night in the dining room.
