Review summary

Great cruise overall. NCL is my favorite cruise line but this ship needs a bit of work. The staff was nice but not personable. Our room steward was really good but we hardly saw him. I've read NCL is making these guys try and avoid the public. If this is true, that's crazy. I enjoy interacting with them. The cruise director was non existent. If she was around she really didn't interact with the guests. Our experience in Cagneys was not good. The food was subpar and the service was just as bad. Now the good/great stuff. We were on a cruise. The rooms were great. Ac worked perfect and our steward kept it perfect. (The bed was not super comfortable but when your exhausted it doesn't matter). The ship was spotless. The staff worked so hard to keep it perfect. For us, this was a special cruise. This was a bday cruise for me and my son. He turned 30 on Sept 17. We also knew he was going to propose to his girlfriend. That was a moment I will never forget. The staff at Moderno made sure it was special. Was the cruise perfect? No, but nothing is. It was a great vacation and I can't wait till my next cruise. I sat at the airport looking and planning the next one. Hubby said i was crazy, and he's right!!! HAPPY CRUISING EVERYONE!!😎

Food and Dining

This is where NCL needs so much work. They are inferior to Carnival and RCL. Again this is our 3rd NCL cruise and this one was the worst. The food in the sports bar and Moderno was great. Breakfast in the main dining room was good, but was not right 2 mornings in a row. The buffet was limited and the food tasted bad. Every one has different taste buds but 3 of the 4 of us were not impressed. Cagneys was awful. We loved it on the Bliss and hated it in this ship. The waiter was not good. We had to ask for water multiple times. Hubby's food was not done right. His fillet was raw. Seriously the meat was purple. Unlike the time before, their was no taste.

Garden Cafe

The buffet needs work. I know this is a smaller ship but there are not enough choices and the food doesn't taste good. We were on the Bliss in April and they had a bigger selection but like the Sun, it was not good.

Moderno Churrascaria

Great food and great staff. We celebrated my sons 30th birthday there. He also proposed to his girlfriend that night. The staff helped make the entire night so special. The salad bar was good. My son got anchovies and gagged on them. The waitress couldn't stop laughing at him.. we all just laughed. By far the best of the 2 specialty restaurants we ate at.

Casino Bar

Probably one of the best bars. Good drinks and great service. We spent a good amount of time there.

Four Seasons Dining Room

This was hit or miss. Breakfast was good but 2 different times our over medium eggs were hard as a rock. The hash brown rounds are the BEST! It's one of the things I was looking forward to. *Negative was they were only in the dining room, not the buffet* Lunch and dinners were ok. Nothing to brag about.

The better of the buffets. Burgers and hotdogs were good. In all the dining rooms, try the pretzel rolls. They rock!

Well, they tried. The cruise director was non existent. In her defense she was sick the 1st day but after that, she would show up to some of these parties and stay 3-5 minutes and she was gone. The overall staff was nice, they were not personable. The cruise directors staff tried to get things going but the patrons just didn't interact with them. It seemed at times there was not enough to do. The DJ kept playing weird music. A lot of it was 90's music that no one really heard much. The white party was fun. The music was great. They had to move it indoors due to the high winds. It was a rocky cruise.

Hair And Beauty Salon

Didn't do an actual massage but had a teaser and WOW!! I should have done the hot stone massage but I was being cheap. The 2 teasers were great.

Sun Club Casino

Can only give stars. I'm not a smoker so I didnt like all of that smoke. The machines were tight 1 night and loose the next one. Love that place!

Entertainment

Rock you Tonight was great. The performers looked and sounded wonderful. Loved the show. The other musicians did a great job but there wasn't enough of it. The DJ was ok. The overall music he played was boring. Too much light listening and not enough dance music.

Observation Lounge

Loved this area. Quiet and peaceful. On the last day it was super windy. We stood outside and the wind took our breath away. It was so cool!!

Stardust Lounge

We went to Rock you Tonight. Though it's not a Broadway show, it was great. The singers and dancers looked and sounded great. Loved the show!

Service and Staff

Most of the staff was friendly, but the cruise director was not. Our opinion was she seemed snobby. Our steward was good. The waitstaff seemed overwhelmed at times. They did a good job but the seemed tired. The casino staff were the friendliest. The last night we had a blast interacting with the guys putting up the chairs on the pool deck. The actual pool was more like a wave pool. It was crazy. The staff kept stopping to watch these waves crash out of the pool. We all kept taking pics and videos of each other and just chatting and laughing.

Ship Quality

Great upgrades. Only real complaint was the weird layout. The ship is a bit hard to maneuver. It was clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

Nice room. The bed was a little hard but the topper helped. The blow dryer made me laugh. If you have curly or long or thick hair, don't bother...
