Norwegian Sun

7 Night Western Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip)

Sail date: January 26, 2008

Ship: Norwegian Sun

Cabin type: Inside

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

While there is nothin spectacular about the Norwegian Sun ship, there is also nothing particularly bad about it. Overall, we felt that we had a great time for a great price. When it comes down to it, we were there to get away and spend time in the sun so rather than nit-pick the differences of other ships we just enjoyed the trip.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Again, nothing spectacular here, but sufficient quality. Of course, the quantity is always there!

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The evening shows were sub-par compared to the Caribbean Princess and Costa Magica. There were a few really good performers but the supporting performers ranged from OK to horrible. The comedians were really funny and not too raunchy. Other activities throughout the day were comparable to other cruises we've been on.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
We have been on the Caribbean Princess and Costa Magica and found that both of those ships were nicer - probably because they are bigger and had some "extras" like an outdoor movie screen or water slide. Overall, the Norwegian Sun was average - the only thing missing was an "extra" that many other ships have that often end up being a novelty anyway.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
We stayed in a standard inside stateroom and found it comparable to other ships we have been on. Our room was located right off of the atrium so thought it might be noisy but the sound-proofing was excellent.

Ports of call

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

5 out of 5
These are usually our favorite days - at the beach with no pressure to hurry from tour to site. The snorkeling was good, beach was great.
Don't Miss: Chilling at the beach.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
This was our second time to Cozumel. We took a ferry across to Playa del Carmen, which we liked much better than Cozumel. The beaches are incredible and easy to get to. We did a tour of Tulum Mayan ruins with Heleman and it was excellent (Helaman - helamantours@yahoo.com). If you do take a ferry across - just pay for one way at a time not the round trip. There are two different ferry companies and one runs on even hours and one on odd so you'll want the flexibility to decide when to go back.
Don't Miss: Playa del Carmen beaches and Tulum tour

Belize City, Belize

5 out of 5
We went on a City Tour and had a good time, then ended up at Old Belize beach - which really isn't old - its a newer restaurant and beach area. No snorkeling but nice sand beach with volleyball court and swimming area. It is only $5 to get in. The food at the restaurant was excellent and relatively cheap.
Don't Miss: Cave tubing - we didn't do it but everyone that we talked to that did said it was their favorite part of the whole trip

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
We had fun in Roatan - it is very primitive compared to other ports because the cruises are just starting to come here. We rented scooters and toured the island. West Bay was difficult to find - you have to ask locals how to get there - but worth the trouble. Don't expect the highly sanitary, developed cruise ports you might be used to.
Don't Miss: West Bay beach
