Review summary
As noted above we really appreciated St Pete. One needs at least two days to appreciate The Hermitage, Peterhoff Palace, Church of the Spilled Blood and St Peter and Paul's Church.. Didn't have time to include the Palace of Catherine. Taking the hydrofoil from Peterhoff back to St Pete was a thrill.Traffic in the city was terrible. Best take a tour with someone else driving.
We would question the time required to get to/from the port to see Berlin. It was at least a two hour train trip each way. Unless one had a specific desire to see Berlin I think time would be better spent seeing another day in Stockholm.or Helsinki.
Copenhagen was very nice and for those entertaining taking this cruise I would suggest spending a complete day there prior to or upon returning. We stayed at a Raddison right accross the street from Tivoli Gardens. The Gardens are quite nice and worth the time .Taking the Hop Off/On Buss and Boat tour was another plus.
The ship was o k. Service in the dinning rooms( excluding the buffet) was good but not terrific. Food itself was o k but not great . The specialty resturants were good especially La Cuchina. Some areas on the ship such as metal on the veranda needed attention as rust was evident.
We enjoyed our two previous two cruises on Holland America better. The ships and food were better. The cruise out of Venice to Greece,Turkey and Dalmatia were was our best, especially seeing Istanbul and Ephesus.
