Review summary

Most of the tours spent a lot of time on a bus. I needed to be older and less mobile for this cruise. I'm glad I did it and do not need to do it again. I like a more active cruise that has more exertion in the ports. As always NCL personnel is terrific. The Spirit is a small ship and has less to do than most other ships. That matters on a 12 day cruise.

Excellent and quick

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Buffets need work, much worse than the Epic in Feb. Specialty was terrific except the Italian restaurant - free would have been paying too much.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Casino - fabulous staff, spa - good - which is standard.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Many people complained there was not enough to do.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Cannot say enough positive about the service. Just spectacular.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship is scheduled for dry dock next year and it needs to be modernized. It was clean and well-maintained but the design is not up to NCL's standard.

Cabin / Stateroom

Great room, had 2 balconies which I did not realize. Too bad it was a little cold to use - (used to Fl. weather.)

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

Yes, always wanted to see Stonehenge.

NEWHAVEN HARBOUR (EDINBURGH), SCOTLAND

Loved the walking tour but it was uphill at least a mile and you needed to be in good shape to do it.

Invergordon (Inverness & Loch Ness), Scotland

The Glenmorange distillery was educational.

Kirkwall, Orkney Islands, Scotland

We had so little time there and we tendered that we did not leave the ship. Was told that the tour to the Oakley Islands was great.

Greenock (Glasgow), Scotland

Visited Stirling Castle but spent too much time on the bus.

Belfast, Northern Ireland

The causeway was interesting but again too much butt time on the bus.

Holyhead, Wales

Arrived on Sun., found 1 shop open. Another couple found 2 - waste of time going in on Sun. Others wanted to do mass and the churches even looked closed. Very friendly people

Dublin, Ireland

Most dynamic of all the ports. Having to buy a pass to take a bus to town, get off, buy a hop-on, hop-off pass seemed stupid. Got the impression that the port did not want us. Had a walking tour and left 1.5 hrs. early. We waited so long for the bus to town, that we had already bought, that we gave up and went back to the ship since we would miss the tour. Only place to shop so you would think they would want tourists but the set-up did not encourage the passengers.

Cobh (Cork), Ireland

Blarney Castle, or tour guide did not warn us to head for the line to the castle, no pictures, no bathroom stop. On our entire bus, only 1 couple made it through the castle, the rest of us knew we would miss the bus back in 1.5 hr. Gorgeous grounds.

Portland (Weymouth), England, UK

Jurassic Park walk very interesting, beautiful but needed more time to investigate. Extreme amount of unstable walking, make sure you are in shape to do it.

Concierge service is fabulous.
