If NCL improves the food quality and selections this cruise would be choice. Overall great cruise EXCEPT the food. Would do it again but eat more in port… :-)
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We were on the ship in 20 minutes.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
Food was the equivalent of a military mess hall.
Cagney's Steakhouse
2 out of 5
Fillet was tough and the lobster tail was rubbery. This steakhouse was at the bottom of all cruise ship steakhouses we ate in.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Comedian was great but recycled jokes.
Magician was great and hilarious.
Rock you tonight was great but didn’t have Led Zeppelin…
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Staff was great and even the captain (ship’s master) greeted us when he walked by us on his rounds (a first for all cruises!).
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
I love a small ship and it was easy to find places and get around quickly.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Toilet stopped flushing the first night and the bathroom light started strobing a few days later. BUT both were fixed within 30 minutes of calling Guest Services.
Ship tip
If high quality food is what you want, think twice about any cruise ship but this one was just not good…
NCL has really built this place up from the first time in 2012. The only downsize is the food and drink places closed 3 hours before we were due back on the ship (otherwise 5 stars).
If you love airplanes (and I do) a cab ride to Maho Beach is a must (excursion not offered). The planes come in low right over you to land and sometimes fly over you on takeoff if the wind allows. Got some great GoPro footage!
Lots to do in San Juan. We went on our own to Castillo San Felipe on this cruise and San Cristobal on a previous cruise. Lot of history there and the food isn’t too shabby either.
I agree the buffet could be busy, but what would you expect with so many cruisers being in and around that area (pool), BUT you do realise there were other restaurants to dine in, that were a lot more civilised?? They were by far the best places to eat breakfast and dinner.
