Review summary

We felt duped. NCL claims it is a family friendly cruise line. This was not our experience. Majority of those on the ship were on Spring Break and drinking heavily. We did not feel like our 2 year old son was safe. For this reason, we left the cruise ship early, and flew back to Miami. I

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Overall, the food was great. Cagney's Steakhouse was excellent!

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
We attempted to utilize the kids pool, but it was full of intoxicated college students (and at times, the remnants of the drinking (e.g., beer bottles, drink cups).

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
We used the children's playroom one time. There were limited toys for our 2 year old, but it was good to have a safe space to go.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Overall, the service was wonderful. We encountered a few staff who were not friendly, but the overall presentation of staff was great.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Overall, we were happy with this.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Size was and cleanliness was fine. Due to the location of our cabin (below restaurant/bar), it was not ideal. There was constant noise due to those drinking above us and we had a drink spilled onto our balcony while we were out there.

Ship tip

Not to sail in March when Spring Break is happening. It was not a family friendly experience.

Ports of call

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas Did not visit port

The winds were too high, and we could not get off the boat.

Nassau, Bahamas Did not visit port

We left the ship to fly back to Miami, due to our dissatisfaction with the cruise experience.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island Did not visit port

We had already left the ship.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
The staff was extremely helpful when we decided to leave the boat (e.g., helping us complete the appropriate paperwork, working with immigration).

This is a booze cruise, especially during spring break. Sounds like some better planning would have helped you out here.

I agree. My college student and I were on this ship the same week and it was crazy! I expected some spring breakers but the 1st day when the private island was cancelled we couldn’t find a lounge chair. We couldn’t get to the bars, and we couldn’t find a seat in the Bliss lounge for any of the shows. I understand kids need to let off steam and have fun, it this was a bit over the top. You would think there would be enough lounge chairs on the ship that everyone could have one but that was not the case. The kids paid their fare and we did too, but I feel like they got more of their monies worth. I was disappointed with the food. The buffet was small and had limited choices so we spent most of our meals in one of the dining rooms. This is a great ship for a short party vibe vacay, not a good choice for a relaxing cruise. Most of the staff were polite and kind. I could tell they were worn thin as well. The ship was extremely clean. Everyone was taking extra precautions and sanitizing. We were extremely frustrated with the process to get off of the shop. We waited until the last group was called because that is the tag we had, and then had to wait again because our room card said something about unresolved finances. We waited for 45 minutes to be given a refund. By that time there was literally two other people left on the whole ship! The communication was sketchy and for someone who has never cruised before it was hard to know where to go and what to do. I will think hard and do my research thoroughly before booking another trip with this line.

Moral of the story, do your homework before booking a cruise.

Spring break is the worst time to be on a cruise ship...except for springbreakers. Also, all cruise lines have very different type of ships. Some offers more kid stuffs or are more kid friendly. Always look at all ships facilities before booking. So NCL is no different than others, except for Disney Cruise Line.
