Review summary

This was our first time sailing on Norwegian. I didn't know what to expect. It was not as nice as Celebrity but was a little better than Princess. It was a very nice itinerary.

Embarkation

We thought we were getting on the ship pretty quick and just as we were about to cross the gangway onto the ship, they closed it and we had to wait about 30 minutes before we could board.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Indigo was better than Summer Palace by far. The service was more attentive and quicker, and the food was better. We ate at Summer Palace for lunch and dinner and the service was very slow. Specialty Italian was "okay" while specialty steak house was "excellent" Buffet breakfast was okay. We missed the smoked salmon and fresh berries normally provided in a buffet. There were a couple days were the only sliced fruit was cantaloupe! The only food I thought was really good at the buffet was the Indian food. Everything else was just okay. We enjoyed the no cost Asian restaurant.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We had 2 days at sea and mainly enjoyed the pool decks. However what detracted from the experience was that there was no service at the pools!!! I had to wait in line for about 15 minutes every time I wanted a drink. There were no poolside attendants offering beverage service! I could not believe it.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We did not go to any shows. The reggae band from Montego Bay Jamaica was EXCELLENT!

Children's Programs

My kids are 16 and 18 years old.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
It was not what I expected from a cruise. A couple examples: 1) There were no waiters in the buffet breakfast area that brought us water, coffee, offered coffee refills, etc. Zero service in the buffet area! 2) There were no poolside waiters offering us drinks on the pool deck. We would have been happy to tip someone to bring us drinks. Instead, we had to wait in line for about 15 minutes every time we wanted a drink.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
It was very nice.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The size and cleanliness was excellent, as was the storage area design. We loved our room. The only thing we did not like was that the beds were pretty firm and affected our quality of sleep.

Ship tip

The bartenders and drinks on Deck 7 midship were the best. Do not eat at Summer Palace! Expect to stand in lines waiting to get water and coffee at the buffet, and any beverages poolside!

Ports of call

Boston, Massachusetts

5 out of 5
Boston is a wonderful city with so much history!

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

5 out of 5
The port is too far away from the nightlife and beaches. Expect to drive 30-40 minutes to get to Hamilton and the main beaches. However Bermuda is a gorgeous island. We rented scooters and rode all over and felt safe.

Bar Harbor, Maine

5 out of 5
Bar Harbor is gorgeous! We rented e-bikes and rode through the interior of Acadia National Park for 4 hours. It was incredible!

Disembarkation

Very long lines. It did not go as quick as other cruises I have been on.
