Norwegian Pearl

7 Night Alaska & Glacier Bay (Seattle Roundtrip)

Sail date: May 04, 2008

Ship: Norwegian Pearl

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 16 years ago

Review summary

The ship was very clean and the rooms were well maintained. The restaurant and bar service were always VERY slow. The overall service certainly did not warrant the $10 per day per person automatic service charge, nor the "auto gratuity" that was added to every service. We were very offended by the constant pressure to buy pictures, art, jewelry, lotto tickets...They were constantly trying to sell things on board the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The good was good. The service was VERY SLOW. We often had to wait to get into the Summer Palace even when there were plenty of open tables. The seating process was VERY SLOW.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Needed fewer activities about buying art and jewelry and more activities related to Alaska. Also a broader scope of activities and shows would have been appreciated. Towel folding isn't an real activity option.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The service was very slow. It appeared that much of the staff was very new at their jobs.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was clean and well-marked.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable.

Ports of call

Ketchikan, Alaska

3 out of 5
The town itself was worth seeing. The shops in each port are the same, but there was more to see here.
Don't Miss: We enjoyed the fijords trip and the snorkeling was very well done and a great adventure.

Skagway, Alaska

3 out of 5
The town itself was really a tourist trap for the cruise ships. You need to take the excursions to see Alaska.
Don't Miss: Train ride

Victoria, British Columbia

5 out of 5
Beautiful city. You really need more time to see it.

Juneau, Alaska

Pros: The Alaska scenery, the forest ranger and related information

Cons: The constant pressure to BUY something...Art, Jewelry, Lotto tickets
