You do not need a passport for cruising leaving from American Port back to an American from Mexico or the Caribbean. Facts!!!

Have a passport play it safe. Your question does not state your ports of call. Foreign ports require passport.

not to get on the ship, but you will need passport to go into a foreign country

I just read about more than 100 being denied boarding at Ft Lauderdale for a Panama cruise because they had no passport.

If it is a closed loop cruise (leaving and returning to the same port) then you don’t need a passport. However, I always suggest having one if possible.
