Review summary

When making the reservation, we also had NCL make our flight itinerary. We were never given the option to fly to Vancouver the day before the sailing date. This is suggested in the information that we received from NCL. We were to fly in the same day, with only a few hours to spare. Because of a lightning strike on the runway at the airport, we missed the connecting flight to Vancouver. After several attempts to get to Vancouver, and were willing to pay our way, we were told that we could not board the ship in the next port. That the Captain would not let us board, and that we would have to cancel the trip. This was to be our 40th Anniversary trip. We were totally heart broken. When talking to agents after finding this out, all they would say is "I'm sorry". Something about the "Jones ACT". We now have to file for insurance for not going on this trip and hopefully get this money back. I don't want to hear "I'm sorry" anymore. I would like to have gotten some help. I still need to find out how to get refunded for the excursions that we booked and couldn't go on. We were very must looking forward to this trip, and it was taken from us. Because of this, we will doubtfully consider booking with NCL again. I guess that if everything goes right and you make the cruise, then it might be OK. But if anything goes wrong, all you will get from Norwegian is "I'm Sorry. You need to file a claim with travel insurance".

Because we were not able to make our connecting flight, we were not allowed to board the ship at the next port. We are thinking that since we could not get on at the original port, they sold our reservation to someone else. They already had our money, so why not!

OMG, what a nightmare for your special celebration. We book day before flight and even then, i feel like nail biting! I book it myself.

This sucks :-( I’ve heard over and over again that booking flights with NCL is a bad idea. It’s apparently an entirely different company. Not a nice way for you to find out though…

It’s up to you to call and tell them you want to fly in a day or two earlier. Norwegian gives a credit to fly in earlier or later. That’s on you for choosing to fly in the day of the cruise.

Sorry for your experience

Never book flights with the cruise line. They will not help if problems arise, and always arrive the day before

Did you ask if you could fly in the day before? When we’ve booked flights with them we asked at the time of booking and got flights the day before no problem. And we also always take out travel insurance too, hope you get your money back!

How disappointing. I’m sorry you experienced this

How upsetting. Unfortunately the Jones act is a common issue, but still…..nonsensical, and outdated. I would think your excursion money should be refunded to your credit card if that is how you paid for them. Not being allowed to fly in the day before is shameful. I wouldn’t use NCL either.
