We really enjoyed this cruise. The ports were all fun, the 2 days cruising glacier bay and the hubbard glacier were truly awe inspiring. There was not a single thing we would have wanted differently. The staff of the Jewel are all tremendous. The ship is older, but clean and very well maintained.

Embarkation was well organized, quick and painless. Canada Place (Vancouver) is a great facility.

Food and Dining

The steaks at Cagney's were awesome, Teppanyaki was great food and a great show - the chefs were amazing. We had a couple dinners in Tsar's Palace which were quite good with excellent service. The food at the buffet was also quite good, had one dinner, a few lunches, several snacks (which we really didn't need) and a couple breakfasts. Breakfast was crowded, but we were always able to find a table and they kept the buffet very well stocked.

There was always something going on. My wife enjoyed the art auction, there were a lot of short presentations which were fun.

Service and Staff

Everyone was extremely friendly and were focused on delivering a top notch experience. We were pleased that the Cruise Director was J.C. Sanchez - he was the CD on our Bermuda cruise last year and he is fantastic. Seems like we saw him everywhere. The hotel director was also always present making sure everything was going as it should.

Ship tip
Spend as much time as you can outside. There are a variety of outdoor areas, all good.
We did a kayaking excursion with Ketchikan Kayak which was excellent. They take you in small groups (there were 2 couples in our group) and the guide (Ryan) was very knowledgeable. Not a lot to the city besides souvenir shops but a lot of beautiful scenery just outside the city.
We enjoyed the state capitol (self tour), then took the city bus to the Mendenhall glacier ($2.00 each way). It is about a 2 mile walk from the bus stop to the visitor center but it is an easy walk. Great town to walk around.
We did the White Pass rail which was excellent. Amazing scenery and good commentary. Spent the afternoon exploring the town which was a lot of fun...lots of history.
Didn't spend much time in Seward, headed onto the bus (Alaska Cruise Transportation) for the trip to Anchorage with stops at the Exit Glacier, Wildlife conservation center, and the Aleyska resort.
