Review summary

Although the crew was nice and the ship was clean enough, it was nothing to rave about. The "freestyle" aspect was not explained clearly and we tipped when we didn't have to in specialty restaurants. We felt that NCL "nickled and dimed us to death" with the specialty restaurants and having to pay for many extras. The average age on board this Baltic Sea trip was 70 (seriously). Snooze cruise, but we tried to make the most of it.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
We were not impressed with the food, either "free" or "pay restaurants". Freestyle is good for not having to be at dinner a specific time, but too many charges for specialty restaurants.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Not very good quality of shows and entertainers except for the dancers. They only did 3 shows in 12 days. The Cirque show was the best. The others were not worth seeing.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Enjoyed concierge, room stewards, Jr. Cruise director and bartender we met and had contact with those 12 days.

We had a nice balcony room and great room stewards.

Ports of call

Copenhagen, Denmark

Beautiful! Must get a hot dog from one of the many vendors and get it with "the works". Suggest a glass of wine in New Haven sitting and watching people go by. Not necessary to take an excursion - you can walk the city or take a sightseeing bus.

Helsinki, Finland

5 out of 5
HAve to visit the market for the colors and fun of people watching. Fishermen selling fresh fish right from their boats! Great shopping for "knick-knacks" and other higher quality souvineers. No excursion necessary.
Don't Miss: Market and square

Warnemunde (Berlin), Germany

5 out of 5
Didn't go into Berlin - too long of a train ride. Saw Rostock (too short on the excursion we took). Loved Warnemunde.
Don't Miss: Walk around Warnemunde and be sure to at least dip your toes in the Baltic Sea!

Tallinn, Estonia

5 out of 5
Loved walking this Medievil village and shopping. No excursion necessary.
Don't Miss: walking the city.

Stockholm, Sweden

St. Petersburg, Russian Federation

Didn't realize we needed a Visa ahead of time, or HAD to take an excursion. We did book 3 excursions, so we were OK. Visited Peterhoff, Hermitage, and opera.
Don't Miss: Opera and music museum at Sheremetyev Palace

Pros: nice crew

Cons: average age 70+
