Review summary

I chose this cruise for the itinerary and was happy with it. It would have been nice to have presentations on sea days about the upcoming ports. I did research each port but would like maps of the ports ahead of time to plan the walking area around the ports. The food was too spicy, but there was enough variety to choose things without sauces. The staff is always great. I like excursions that are overviews of the port being visited, although I did choose Falkirk for one port. Cabin bathrooms are always tight; glad I'm not bigger.

Embarkation

I was a "back-to-back" passenger, and it went smoothly with no waiting in lines.

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The foods were too spicy but a good variety. Cagney's had a great ribeye steak.

Cagney's Steakhouse

5 out of 5

The rib-eye steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and was delicious. Service was great, too.

Garden Cafe

3 out of 5

Many of the foods were too spicy or in sauces. The Asian section had stir-fry vegetables that were good, but all the other dishes were definitely not Japanese. Fortunately, I could usually find a carved meat without too much pepper or some other more plainly cooked vegetables. I did enjoy the desserts. It was often difficult to find a seat (on the transAtlantic cruise it wasn't as crowded).

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
A lot was offered, although I didn't choose to participate. I would have liked lectures about the upcoming ports. Language offerings were good.

Shore Excursions Desk

5 out of 5

I signed up for most of the excursions before the cruise, but I chose a few later. The staff was helpful, and the excursions were as described and all were good. I like the ones that are overviews of the area for 3-4 hours, giving us some extra time in the port.

Galleria Shops

5 out of 5

I like the location--all the shops at one end of the ship so we don't have to walk through shops on a major central area like in many other ships.

Very enjoyable. After the morning excursion I had time to walk to the historic library and do a little research. I'd like to return.

Kirkwall, Orkney Islands, Scotland

Interesting excursion to "Stonehenge"-like stones, plus time to get some yarn.

Invergordon (Inverness & Loch Ness), Scotland

5 out of 5
I enjoyed the excursion to see the lakes (Lochs) in the area.

NEWHAVEN HARBOUR (EDINBURGH), SCOTLAND

The Falkirk Wheel was a highlight. I wish this were an overnight port because there was a lot more to see in Edinburgh.
