Review summary

I loved this cruise. One strange thing that I wasn't aware of being sailing is that you are taxed on purchases when you are on the Mississippi. So all the drinks consumed the first day (until we hit the gulf) had like 90 cents tax on them. Not a big deal but I was not aware of it before. The ship was great as usual.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We basically walked right on the ship. There were people waiting for us to walk to them and it took maybe five minutes to get us set up. Easy embarking process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I would give this a 4 1/2 stars if possible. The buffet was good. The main dining rooms were excellent. We loved La Cucina and Le Bistro. We were a little disappointed at Moderno. The meat was good but the salad bar was a let down. Overall, I would rate the food better than good but not quite excellent. The coffee was bitter on occasion but I think with that many people it didn't get the time it needed to brew. The drinks were strong.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There is a lot of different things to do. Lots of variety. I never entered the pool but did go in the hot tub a few times. The hot tubs are more warm than hot, which is a little disappointing.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Went to a few shows in the atrium and they were great and entertaining. Saw Burn the Floor and it was great dancing. There was this little drama skit in the beginning which I don't think needed to be there - but other that that, great show. Million Dollar Quartet was phenomenal. The music and acting was top of the line.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone of this ship does a great job. I miss the towel animals :( Everyone seems to enjoy their job and they do it well.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
It was clean and comfortable. More than enough storage space. The bathroom is a great size. My only complaint is the air conditioning - it clicks off after like 30-60 minutes so every night I woke up sweating. Kind of sucks being on vacation and not sleeping a full night through.

Ship tip

Don't over pack!!!

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
Cozumel is nice. Lots of shops. Definitely do an excursion here. We went ATV riding. It was a lot of fun.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
Love this island. The beaches are gorgeous. We got an excursion Best of Roatan - private island tour which is essentially a private driver. We did some research so we had places we wanted to see but we also relied on his for advice. I would visit Roatan again as its own vacation.

Harvest Caye, Belize

3 out of 5
We didn't do any excursion we just went to the port. It was a windy gloomy day. It think the pool and beach would have been nice if it was warm. NCL can't help the weather. Next time I will take the ferry to the mainland.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
We went snorkeling here and it was good. The day started off gloomy and the water was choppy. But the snorkeling was good. The port is full of shops and restaurants but it was overcrowded.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We basically walked right of the ship. Best disembarkation process ever!!!

Unfortunately NY port is the same way when you leave out of it. The bartenders won’t tell you unless you notice it on your receipt. We leave out of Texas in may on a RCL ship and we can use our drink package as soon as we get on the ship however there is a limited menu because of the Texas liquor board & carnival does it different from what I read. So if you sail away on Sunday, you won’t be able to use your drink package (even if purchased ahead of time) until Monday morning. Don’t worry, you aren’t charged for this day. So a drink package on a 7-day cruise actually gets charged for six days. It takes about two hours from when you leave the port for the menu to change.
