NCL decided to dry dock early, canceling half of our ports and shortening the cruise to 10 days instead of 12, a week before sailing on Easter weekend. They had absolutely no regard for their passengers and the ship was filthy making a lot of passengers sick to the point that the CDC has been notified. Absolutely appalled by NCLs lack of customer service.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Very easy to board, a lot of upset people though.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
The dinners took 3+ hours, extremely understaffed and slow. Went to Savor, Taste and Cagney's. Food was subpar, even in Cagney's specialty dining room. Food after one week started making people sick as if it went bad along the passage. Had to avoid seafood after a bad crab soup experience.
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
They took another route so we hit colder weather. Pools were freezing, water slides never open. Rock-climbing and rope course were fun but only opened about 2 times the whole 10 day cruise. Also camera on rope course was broken, really a disappointment since we had the photo package.
Entertainment
1 out of 5
I was not entertained and my fellow passengers seemed to share in this opinion. Dance shows were repetitive and boring.
Service and Staff
1 out of 5
Our room steward and bartender at O'Sheehan's were fantastic. Unfortunately their excellent service could not override the horrendous service everywhere else. Staff was scarce and usually sick with some sort of respiratory infection.
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
The ship was disgusting. Most passengers fell ill onboard, staff was sick and washy washy was MIA. The bathrooms smelt like sewage and were always dirty. Glasses had lipstick still on them from previous use. I was really disgusted by the dirty ship.

It’s never a good idea to take a cruise in the last few cruises before or the first few cruises after a dry dock or refurbishment. Many times they start to work on the ship ahead of time and also reduce the supplies on board. This is why the price may be less on these cruises. Every cruise I have taken said in the contract that changes can be made to the itinerary at anytime for any reason. If a specific port or ports are important to you, I recommend getting a good travel insurance policy that will compensate you for Itinerary changes or missed ports. Nationwide has a good comprehensive policy as do other companies.
It’s never a good idea to take a cruise ownership in the last 1-2 cruises before or the first few cruises after dry dock. As far as cancellations or missed ports, every cruise I have ever taken mentioned in the contract that the ports can change or be canceled at any point. If a particular port or ports are of importance to you, I recommend getting a good travel policy that includes compensation if the itinerary is changed or ports are missed. Nationwide offers a good comprehensive policy and others do as well
I sure some of your review is true but you are embellishing with exaggeration to make your point that you were very disappointed with your cruise. You also fail to mention they gave you compensation for the shortened itinerary as well as money toward flight changes if you wanted to change them. Sorry you appear to have had a such a bad time.
I was onboard the Gateway one month ago and the ship was spotless! Did a 4 day cruise on her New York to Bermuda and I loved it! I can't imagine your cruise was that bad...Sad to hear they cancelled 2 days out of it...It must have been a very serious reason to do that...Hope you had a safe trip back home 😉
