I was not impressed by Norwegian Getaway. This was my first time on a Norwegian ship. I expected better/different than what I experienced. The cabin was nice. Other than that, there isn't much positive I can say.
Embarkation

Easy process to get on the ship. Waiting area was humid and warm.

Food and Dining

Food from the buffet was always a good selection. Many choices. Some of the meals in the main dining rooms were excellent, other meals were very bland. It was inconsistent on taste. Serving size in main dining room was large. Desserts were good. Had unlimited beverage package and tips were prepaid, so it was convenient to not have to deal with tipping each time. Drinks overall were good.

Entertainment
4 out of 5
It was a little unclear at first which shows were available for free on the ship and which shows were for a fee. This is the first cruise where I have had to pay for entertainment. The Million Dollar Quartet was an excellent show, great talent. The Wine Lovers show (fee) was also a fun show with a great meal and great wine selections.
Children's Programs
Service and Staff

All staff were welcoming, friendly and accommodating when needed.
Ship Quality

There was nothing spectacular about this ship. It was like being on a party ship. It was all bars and pay restaurants. Not much else.
Cabin / Stateroom

My first room was right over the theater, and I had read on Cruise Critic this was a bad location due to noise. I had not preselected my room due to traveling with my cousin, and us having separate rooms. The noise from the theater happened in the middle of the day for practice, as well as for about four hours at night due to two shows during the evenings. I asked for a room change and was told no rooms were available. Same day a few hours later they were able to find me a new room, opposite side of the ship and up on 14 instead of 8, but it ended up being a good location. Right under the buffet/pool and near a main stairwell, but there was limited noise. I was much happier with the new room.
We booked a shore excursion through AA instead of the ship. It was a bike and beach tour. It was fine, but I am not sure why the cruise ship stops there as there isn't really anything to tour in Costa Maya.
We spent all our time on the private island, which was very nice. It was different not having a BBQ lunch on the island, but I am sure it is a lot of work for the crew to host that. Here I took a short nature tour, did the zip lining experience - which was so much fun, and then hung out on the beach until a storm blew in and pushed everyone back onto the ship. Water temperature was perfect. For people who have never zip lined, be prepared to start high and also go Superman style if desired. There were plenty of lounge chairs to choose from.
Booked Best of Roatan tour. We visited three locations, one a small chocolate factory, then shopping in that village area. From there we went to what I thought was going to a nature walk, and it was, into the deep, wet jungle walking across 7 suspended bridges. It was so humid. From there we went to a resort where we were hounded constantly to buy things and only had about 40 minutes to enjoy the area, which we didn't really get to do. Disappointing shore excursion, but glad we got off the ship.
On this cruise I did not do a shore excursion. On a previous tour we did the excursion to the Chitzen Itza Mayan ruins, which was a very long day, but a wonderful tour. This time we stayed close to the ship with only shopping in local port area. I did get a great deal on a piece of jewelry.
Getting off the ship was very unorganized. We were told to disembark by color tags for our luggage. You could not hear calls for colors, and there were multiple lines trying to connect into one to get off the ship. Most unorganized experience I have had on a cruise.
Not much you liked about the cruise, even the ports had negative feedback. We've been on 8 cruises and loved them all. Maybe cruising isn't for you. Sorry you didn't enjoy it.
