Review summary

Just came back from the getaway 7 day western cruise. Here's my what's good and what's bad list. Staff Service The good: Amazing, the staff was super friendly and willing to help you with whatever questions or needs you might have. If you speak phillipino/tagalo you're gold because 90% of the staff is phillipino. The bad: Nothing bad to say only that it maybe be hard fir some to understand some staff because of their thick accents. Food The good: Not to bad even at the buffet. If you are planning on going to a speciality (which I totally recommend you should do) try out the French restaurant Le Bistro french, the lamb and chocolate neapolitan was out of this world. The bad: From my experience the Tropicana room dinners were not the best. Most of the food looked and tasted like it came out of a frozen dinner box. And Cagney's Steakhouse was good but very slow service wise. Bars The good: You have many to choose from because there's about 2 or 3 on almost every floor. With a nice selection. If you find a good bartender they will keep you entertained and your cup filled, thanks Danny lol. The bad: Depending on the time of day and foot traffic the bartenders will either be very slow or just ignore you completely. Entertainment The good: The shows to watch are Cirque steam and Million Dollar Quartet. In my opinion these two are the must sees. They have a comedy club that was fun. And if you're a fan of Dancing with the stars (not my cup of tea) then you'll enjoy Burn the Floor. The bad: Again nothing was really bad just not much variety. Activities The good: The water slides, ropes course/zip line and rock wall are really fun and challenging. A dance party almost every night. There's trivia and deal or no deal games. They also offered origami, animal towel folding, language and dancing classes. They also have bingo, painting classes, wine, mojito and margarita tastings for a fee. The bad: Most of the activities are scheduled at the sametime and usually take place in the atrium which was kind of annoying (I think it's because that's how the cruise director wanted it to encourage you to drink more at the bar). We had a lot of down time when there was absolutely nothing to do. Pool The good: If you have the funds spring for the private pool area. Less crowds and resevered lounge chairs. The bad: The public pool is small and always busy. Overall The getaway is a big ship and the ride was very smooth with very minimal rocking. The rooms were very clean and surprisingly quiet. Don't know if we had quiet neighbors but the whole time we never heard a thing. Again this is all just my opinion and experience. All in all, I'd go on this ship again but maybe with a different cruise director.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Wherever you ate the food was amazing ,especially at the speciality restaurants. Breakfast at in main dining room were good I appreciated that we didn't have to sit with strangers which was nice. The bartenders were a bit heavy handed for my taste. And the buffet was good but not much variety.

Cagney's Steakhouse

If you like steak would totally recommend.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
The cruise director must have been off his game because there was not much to do outside of the atrium and when there was an activity it seemed like everyone on the boat was the, very over crowded.

Climbing Wall

Entertainment

The shows were fun and entertaining. Some were better than others.

Card Room

3 out of 5

The only place we could entertain ourselves without having a huge crowd. Not many cards or games on board but we brought our own games and had a ball with a couple of off duty crew members.

There were some parts of the ship that could have used some improvements, updating and possibly a fresh coat of paint.

Ship tip

If you don't mind large crowds and don't like doing a lot of activities then this cruise ship is for you.

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We went on a underground river/caving excursion. Definitely an experience everyone should try at least once. Just make sure you know the basic rules of swimming. Not very deep for the most part.

Harvest Caye, Belize

5 out of 5
Private island. Very nice if you can find a spot to chill. They also have a zipline across the beach line that's fun.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

We did a countryside bus tour and lunch at the beach. Very nice experience.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

We stayed close to the port and did a Mayan spa experience for our excursion. It was very relaxing and afterwards we bought some beautiful art work from a local artist.

Last month we enjoyed the Cirque/Steam show and Million Dollar Quartet the most. Daytime bartender in Margaritaville also did a great job

Glad you enjoyed. In our opinion Tropicana was the best meals we had with Le Bistro second. Moderno was terrible.

Btw.. I think the Getaway has had the best buffet Ive seen at sea!! In quality of food, layout, and open hrs!! 😀

The Casino is by far the worst Ive ever seen! It is partially beside the Asian noodle bar resturaunt and in an open walkway/atrium. Slots were locked down so tight there was very little chance of winning anything... or even being able to play for hr without burning through $100.
