Review summary

All in all, it was a great trip. Originally, this itinerary was serviced by a smaller ship, but that was changed in the spring of this year. Since I wanted to see these ports, I had no choice but to book on the Getaway. Not a good choice for an itinerary like this. This was also a repositioning cruise, which, thankfully, we did not choose to continue on. Too many days at sea. With the ship this crowded, I can only imagine it would be a nightmare on a 7 day crossing of the Atlantic Ocean.

Embarkation

embarkation was smooth and uneventful.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food on this ship for this cruise was fantastic. We ate at three specialty restaurants: La Cucina - which was Italian food; Tappenyaki - which was Japanese Hibachi - the chef put on a show that was fabulous. One of the people in our group required "no soy" and they were so accommodating. They prepared everything for her "soy free" and it did not disrupt the dining experience for the other people at our grill. Lastly, we ate at Ocean Blue - seafood. We were a little upset that there was an upcharge per person of $17.50 over and above our dining package , but after experiencing the dining experience, it was worth every penny. This, by far, was the best restaurant on the ship. The seafood was delicious. Our wait staff consisted of a team of three -- which you don't get at any of the other restaurants. I would highly recommend this.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We played bowling, see ball and sang karaoke. The timing this cruise -last cruise of the season in the area, and the cold weather, made the ship extremely crowded -- you could not be on the outside decks at all. It was either too windy or rainy or cold.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We say two main shows: Burn the Floor and Million Dollar Quartet. Both were Broadway quality. We saw an excellent comedy show by Anthony Scott.

Children's Programs

we didn't have any children with us.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The staff was extremely pleasant. Our friend is the assistant cruise director, Lorena, so we had a little advantage over other passengers. She is the best!!

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was very clean. The layout lends something to be desired. There is NOT ONE quiet place on board. There are alot of bars and pubs with seating areas, however, the seating areas are extremely small. Alof of activities like game shows take place in the Atrium. This is also the area where customer service and all of the cruise desks are located. It is impossible to hear yourself think in this area. I do not know how the staff works under these conditions.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was great. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was a nice size.

Ship tip

Go on this ship in sunny weather. Go on this ship when you are on a cruise where you can take advantage of the amenities - pool, rock climbing wall, slide, hot tubs, all of the things that cannot be enjoyed in 50 degree weather. This is a ship for the Caribbean -- not a European Capitals cruise.

Ports of call

Copenhagen, Denmark

loved this port.

Warnemunde (Berlin), Germany

great port -- too far from the cruise terminal. Most of our day was spent on board a train to Berlin. But what we did see in Berlin, was beautiful, and we want to go back.

Tallinn, Estonia

Great port.

St. Petersburg, Russian Federation

We did an excursion through Shorex - booked through BJs travel. It was a nightmare. This is no reflection on BJs and I am taking that matter up with my BJs travel agent rep.

Helsinki, Finland

Loved the port.

Nynashamn (Stockholm), Sweden

5 out of 5
Stockholm is an hour train ride from the cruise terminal itself. We wanted to see the Abba Museum, so we were able to go to Stockholm, see the museum and get back on the train and be back on the ship in time.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was uneventful.
