Review summary

The ship was not good - we were in the Haven and expected much more than what we received. The menu no longer changes for the week which tries to get you to go to the other restaurants which are just awful. If you are a foodie, this is not the place for you. We had one selection of "packaged included" chardonnay, it was not a good pair with any of the food and was shallow. When we asked for an alternate, the staff suggested we buy a bottle, which we were not going to do. It's the Haven which already costs a small fortune.

We were in the Haven, food was salty, over cooked and not up to the last (first) cruise we had taken out of Miami on the Breakaway. We were very surprised.

I don't know what to say here - the cities we visited were fabulous, our butler was just amazing. Beyond excellent.

Martinmanorsurplus. Hubby and I doing the same in 2 days. Second time in Copenhagen!! Great city but expensive. First time on Getaway and first transatlantic. Ready to have a blast

ettacruises I just came back from the Breakaway and had a less than stellar experience with that ship and had the best experience on the Getaway. It's all about timing and life.

martinmanorsurplus—you will love the Getaway! Have you tried NCL Freestyle Cruising before on a different ship? The Getaway was my first NCL ship, and we fell in love! First of all, the Getaway has the largest and best buffet at sea I’ve ever had! And you can’t beat O’Sheehans Irish Pub for the best 24 hour complimentary food! I guess ettacruises never ventured out of the Haven to sample some of the outstanding food choices available.

Maybe the Haven cost set your expectations higher? But yes I totally agree that on any specific cruise line, the experience varies from ship to ship. So far in the Carival ships, Ive found the Liberty was the best food, the Valor the best music, the Sunshine the best water park and Serenity area..... I go on the Getaway this sunday for the Trans Atlantic and Im excited to try a new line, new ship, new experiences!! Next stop will be RC Oasis and Symphony... Then Ill see if I go back to Carnival, NCL, or RC.

I am comparing my last NCL on Breakaway to this one on Getaway - very different. Princess has the same issue, one cruise can be excellent, the next dull. It was just off. Could be end of season as the reason.

I am wondering what cruise line you may be comparing NCL to? I have been on the getaway in a spa suite, I found it relaxing and wonderful. There are places on any ship where the food is average, so if I want better than average I know where to go. I hope you do have a cruise line you prefer.

Hmmm—sorry you had such a bad time—and in the Haven, no less!! I had the absolute best cruise of my life on the Getaway, and I was in an inside cabin!! I guess sometimes we might have too high of expectations and are disappointed when they are not met! Me—give me free food, cocktails, entertainment, and a clean bed and I’m happy! Any day on ANY cruise is better than any day not on one. Adjust your expectations, and maybe you just might be happy with the results. I have NEVER heard a bad report from anyone staying in the Haven before. EVER. Perhaps a luxury line is more to your liking and tastes!
