Review summary

Cruised NCL before and actually the NCL Dawn was my first ever cruise. That hooked me on cruising, this cruise may have unhooked me. My initial turn off was all the "selling" at the spa. I am an endurance event triathlete and love a good gym. I asked to see the steam and sauna rooms and was led on a tour. A tour that ended with the knowledge that there was NO steam or sauna unless you paid for the upgrade. You can sell me mineral baths, massages, hot rocks etc. but don"t charge me for steam. It's just greedy. And my training requires it most times. My main problem, however, was with the ships doctor. I was quite ill on the last Friday and went to the infirmary. I paid for the additional insurance when I booked but was told I needed to pay $189 plus any meds. When I told them I had the extra medical coverage they said I can "apply" for the refund after the cruise with a third party. I asked if they were refusing to treat me and they said "that's our policy". Imagine that, you can't go anywhere without being sanitized, but when I said I'm leaving they let me. I looked down the hall at the doctor and asked if he was ok with me going back into the general ships population and he ignored me. So I stayed on the ship a full day and a half with pneumonia. I was treated after I left the ship in Miami. Absolutely crazy. I know I'm a stubborn jerk, but putting passengers in jeopardy over a few bucks is nuts. I will not sail Norwegian again. And when I complained after the sailing they never responded. EVEN Expedia gave me $50 to reimburse me for some of the extra medical coverage I paid for when I complained to them. Too many cruise options out there to choose from to ever use Norwegian again.....

Sorry---but I have to agree. This is how all cruise lines run their infirmary. You just submit your bill once home for reimbursement. I am blessed with the ever so wonderful "Obamacare" at home, and I have to pay out right full cost until I reach a high deductible before I am even able to use the copay. I'm not happy about that, but that's the world of insurance---that is until we finally get rid of Obamacare. But I still seek medical care when necessary. I do not storm off like a "jerk" and infect everyone I see.

I am 48, and I have never heard of someone using the phrase "hooked me" followed by the phrase "unhooked me"... brilliant, I laughed very hard. sorry about your experience but I had to mention how much I enjoyed that.

Not sure what to say on this one , couple hundred bucks to get some meds to avoid infecting the entire ship yeah stubborn jerk you said it I didn't. Find it hard to believe you had an pneumonia and ships doctor let you just walk out sounds like a quarantine situation, but hey your review.

well news to you but this is how cruise lines work, seems you are a pretty new cruiser so let this be a lesson to u and it is recommended you do some homework prior to setting sail

Just so you are aware, this is how all cruise lines handle medical issues. All require to be paid, and you have to file insurance.
