Review summary

The Getaway is a great ship...very nice staterooms, larger bathroom than we had experienced before...good food.  We were surprised at all of the extra expenses, especially for shows.  We have never had to pay so much (and didn't) for additional shows, restaurants, etc. on board.  I would want to experience some other lines and see if they are also now charging for every little thing you might want to do.  Our day at Harvest Caye was cancelled for some reason and that was a huge disappointment.  The compensation didn't come close to making us feel better about that lost day.  We did have a great time because we were with friends.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We only ate in the dining room once and our waiter was not the friendliest, so we ate at the buffet (six of us) every meal.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

We loved the Million Dollar Quartet and the comedians at Headliners. Burn the Floor was a bit too long with the same thing going on for an hour. Those were the only shows that were included.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
We wondered if our stateroom steward was new. On more than one night we had to ask for washcloths and a few other things were not attended to as thoroughly as on other cruises. Still, our room was clean and that's the most important thing.

Really loved our cabin.

Ship tip

We had a stateroom near the back of the ship and only two floors down from the Garden Cafe and dining rooms, so it was great to hike up the two flights of stairs to eat and we saved a lot of time not waiting for the elevators. We felt very little movement in this location.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

It was far too expensive to stay near the port although we would have liked to. Also, it would have been less intimidating to our friends if we had cruised out of a different port, even though my husband and I enjoyed a city tour and got along fine. Next time I would probably look for a cruise out of a different port.
