Review summary

We loved the cruise overall. I think NCL nickels and dimes you with some charges. We did not go to the specialty restaurants at all. The food was great in the other restaurants and the buffet. The Belize stop was a nice beach but really charging for the food and drink on your own island!!

Pretty typical with lounge chair hogs and hot tub hogs. Not sure how to rectify that.

Staff was excellent, our stateroom steward was the best!!!

Shows for the most part great. For the extra fee the magic show was not a good deal and not worth it.

Will I cruise on NCL again, YES!

I just got of the Getaway on Sunday January 22. It was a birthday cruise for me, and it was a wonderful cruise. We loved the ship!! So much, we plan to sail her again with other family members. As for them nickel and dime you, I have found that on other cruise lines as well. Nothing new. I, too, was disappointed that the private island (Harvest Caye) did not provide a free lunch buffet as other private island stops do, but I understand that it's because it is run by other private businesses, not Norwegian, although they built it. We did thoroughly enjoy our day there, though! We lived in that gorgeous pool! I found the beach very difficult to walk barefoot on. Too many broken shells in the sand. I suggest people to wear water shoes there. I felt the food was excellent in both the MDRs and the buffet. Actually, we liked the buffet better!! And my hubby's favorite spot was O'Sheehan's Irish Pub. Open 24 hours and all complimentary!! Great for wings and a beer!! We also went to the Illusionarium dinner show, and felt the show "lacking", but the Surf and Turf dinner with the desert trio was worth it. The only specialty we booked was Moderno, the Brazilian Steakhouse, and only because it was for my birthday dinner, as we usually never book specialty restaurants. I must say it was excellent!! I felt all the entertainment was excellent, also. Much better than we experienced on RCCL Oasis last cruise! We HATED CATS!! (As did nearly everyone else that walked out at intermission, never to return. I have no idea why they are still showing it!!) We LOVED Million Dollar Quartet and Burn The Floor on the Getaway, along with the various bands and other entertainers! The comedians were hilarious, and the dueling pianos at Howl at the Moon were great! Oh, and don't forget the Waterfront! Fabulous area to hang out on and have a nightcap!
