Review summary

April 11 to April 18 on the Norwegian Getaway was special mostly because my daughter and granddaughter were with me on their first cruise and we did enjoy most of the trip.  The food was fair not great in the 3 main dining rooms, We were disappointed in the lack of choices for seafood.  First cruise I have not had lobster or scallops.  If you wanted good seafood you had to pay $39 extra for the Blue Ocean restaurant.  The other specialty restaurants had tables outside the restaurant with people walking by you as you were eating on the 6th Atrium floor.  Would recommend asking for a table inside the restaurant if you chose one of them. There was only ONE adult pool which was taken over every day by young adults who were drinking heavily.  We did not get to swim at all on this ship. We found a spot on the 16th deck near a small waterfall that helped us cool off.  Two days in a row we were asked to leave this area as there were private parties being held.  I have never been asked to leave any public area on any other cruise. We had two rooms, an inside family suite and a mid-ship mini-suite with balcony.  The balcony was a joke.  It was 6 x 15 with two chairs and a tiny table.  One of us had to stand if we wanted to spend any time on the balcony.  There was no room for a third chair even if one was available which it was not. Every other cruise I have been on (12) there was ample space on the balcony for two lounge chairs and a table.  It was very disappointing.  The room was spacious but a larger balcony definitely would have been better. The dining room service was not a good experience.  Only on our last night did one of the female servers give us more attention and knew my name.  It was very annoying that they were constantly coming to the table to remove items and you felt like they couldn't wait for you to finish so they could clear the table.  The shore excursions were great except they did not warn you of the amount of walking from the ship to either get your van or bus to your destination.  The excursion to the private beach at the Atlantis was the worst.  It was at least a 25-30 minute walk to the beach after you were dropped off.  That beach was not the best --the sand was thick and gritty and you sunk in it as you walked.  The Sunset Bar Maho Beach trip was fun but was extremely crowded.  Would not do that again.  Best excursion was the boat trip to Abi beach.  Highly recommend this event.  All in all, we had perfect weather and did have fun dancing on the 16th deck several nights to 50s,60s,70s,80s.  Entertainment was fair not great.  Best music was from Tropical Four.  Legally Blonde show was very boring -- we walked out after 15 minutes.  The other show had a charge and we were not interested in it anyway.  Will definitely not cruise on NCL again; will go back to Princess.

Cabin / Stateroom

Closet was extremely small; not enough storage room in cabin.

Ship tip

Too many people; would choose smaller ship next time. Food was fair, not great, not enough seafood in Taste or Savor. 15th deck buffet was pretty good but too busy and hectic. Entertainment was disappointing. Shopping on ship was very expensive except for one or two times they had sales.
