Wonderful time on NCL Getaway

Sail Date: December 06, 2014

Reviewed: 1 year ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

The ship is brand new, so all the fixtures work.  Cabins on lower decks are fairly well sound-proofed (we were on deck 5) so you can sleep through engine noise.  Main dining room is split into two halves, so service is faster because each venue is smaller (Savor and Taste).  St. Maarten and St. Thomas were hot and humid, while Nassau was cool, breezy and dry--perfect weather.  Excursions were well organized.  Ship docks each time--no tendering.  Food was absolutely fantastic--best of any NCL cruise (this was my ninth).  Movies shown in Atrium.  Rock climbing wall is great.  Lots of activities for kids.

Ship Quality
Food and Dining
Service and Staff
Entertainment
Children's Programs
Onboard Activities
Usual emphasis on spending money--Bingo, gambling, shopping
Destinations and Excursions
Cabin / Stateroom
Slightly smaller than on previous NCL ships. The bigger the ship, the smaller the cabins.
Miami, Florida
Stayed in airport hotel on previous day--food and service impeccable here.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
See and Sea excursion--nice tour of city and semi-submersible submarine tour.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
Coral Gardens and butterfly farm tour. Coral Gardens is large--big aquarium and sea lion show.
Nassau, Bahamas
See and Sea tour--different fish than in St. Maarten. Saw sharks, barracuda, turtles.

Tip

On embarkation day, go to Savor or Taste and have pleasant sit-down lunch. We had fried calamari and shrimp burgers--yummy. Book a cabin on deck 5 or 6 to avoid late night noise.
