Will definitely be going back to Bermuda on a longer cruise than 5 days, and would not mind being on the Gem again except that next time will get a balcony room. Hopefully they’ll have better musicians then.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
It took literally 15 minutes from the time we got off our Uber to when we got on the ship! Amazing
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
The main dining room launch offerings were pretty much the same the dates we went there. We had dinner at the specialty restaurants the whole time and we were not disappointed. The drinks were on point.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Worked out a couple of times at the fitness center. Pleasantly surprised on its cleanliness, choice of equipments, and it not be crowded. Only used the pool ones other days were to cold.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
This solo musicians were pretty unremarkable and sometimes really bad. The band during the 7-8 PM time slot would sing slow and kind of depressing songs or sad country songs. Not convivial with wanting to enjoy the cocktail and socialize. Really enjoyed Tim Kaminsky funny as always and the Russian couple dancers / acrobats we’re pretty amazing. Gem should get good solo musicians.
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
Staff are always friendly and helpful. Our cabin steward was very nice except that he had to be reminded to provide amenities that he should’ve provided. I think he’s new.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship was easy to get around as it’s not that big and easy to remember where things are. It was also kept very clean. Big plus.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Will not get an obstructed ocean view cabin again. It didn’t have a loveseat only one chair. This was our first and last in this kind of cabin. The shower and faucet pretty much slowed to a trickle. They sent the plumber right away to fix it, fortunately!
Ship tip
The free Internet package we got worked well the first two days then it became pretty bad to being nonexistent we could not connect to check emails as it won’t connect in the remaining days of our cruise. Best to purchase an Internet package in addition to the free WiFi if you need to go online.
We did a self carry and was able to disembark in 10 minutes after enjoying a leisurely breakfast at the main dining room. Our issue is the taxi line or lack there of of the taxi line in the cruise terminal. Similar to what we experienced a few years ago, you still have to go to 12 Avenue and wait for a taxi which is almost nonexistent at this time because it’s rush-hour. So we walked up a couple of blocks then went to 11th Ave. to catch a cab. The NYC cruise terminal should provide a taxi area with in the terminal so that passengers will not have to go on busy 12th Avenue and be on their own catching a cab.
