Review summary

My 26 year old daughter and I had a "Gem" of a cruise experience. The shows and food were excellent. There was plenty of things to do. We enjoyed the ports. At Port Canaveral we booked an excursion to the Orlando Eye, Madame Tussaud's and an aquarium. There was just the right amount of time to enjoy. The private island was beautiful and we had great weather. We have been Nassau before so we decided to book a day pass to the Hilton though Resorts for a Day. It was the right choice-very relaxing. There was a nice beach, pool and plenty of chairs both in the shade or sun. The Gem is nice size ship. There are lots of activities and choices in the evening of lounges to enjoy some music. Hope you get to enjoy this ship someday too!!

Embarkation

Security Lines were not very long. Also due to Platinum status we checked in quickly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The Main dining rooms and buffets were very good. We loved the specialty Italian Restaurant. Cagney's Steak house was a disappointment as the side dishes were served luke-warm to cold and the steak was a little tough and salty

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Mostly we enjoy trivia and the game shows. My daughter did use the fitness center several times. Would like more choices of things to do on sea days.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We loved all the stage shows. The singers and dancers were excellent. There was a Latin band that played by the pool and in the lounges and they were outstanding. One evening they had a crew show accompanied by a bank on the pool deck. We were all encouraged to dance along. It was a lot of fun.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Waiters, room stewards and bar tenders were all friendly and attentive.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship was easy to navigate and kept in tip-top shape.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very happy with our inside cabin. There was lots of storage and beds were comfortable. We like inside cabins as we sleep well.

Ship tip

On the last day enjoy sit down breakfast and stay on the ship as late as you can. Let the everyone else rush to get off

Ports of call

New York, New York

5 out of 5
Very easy on and off the ship. We did not do an excursion. However, we came to NYK by Amtrak and walked to the port (about 45 minutes)

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
Highly recommend excursion to Orlando Eye, Madame Tussaud's and the Aquarium. It is a short day at this port but there is plenty of time to enjoy this excursion.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

5 out of 5
We had a beautiful day and relaxed in the shade. We did not do an excursion.

Nassau, Bahamas

5 out of 5
We have been to Nassau numerous times so this time we booked a day pass to the Hilton with Resorts for a Day. It was a short walk from the ship and very relaxing. Plenty chairs in both shade or sun. Price included a food allowance.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We were among the last passengers off the ship and it was very easy to disembark.
