Review summary

Went on the Norwegian Gem for a week. Cruising is not for me. The ship has it's issue and I got "the room" where something went wrong every night for the first three nights. The remote to the tv was missing. The phone didnt work. The safe failed to work. The toilet didnt flush properly. And the diarrhea! The food absolutely sucked. All the desserts looked good but lacked any flavor. I ate so little, I lost 5 lbs! I had diarrhea the first two nights and constipated on the third and fourth. They had the worst toilet paper. Best move I ever made was bringing 6 rolls of 2 ply Cottonelle from home. I nearly disembarked in Port Canaveral. My bags were packed and ready to go. The only reason i left my cabin was the entertainment staff onboard. Dana, Kevin and Shreta were the only reasons why i came out of the room. They deserve a lot of credit for keeping me entertained. With limited roaming data and cell, 4 channels of tv and being deprived of my Mets I was bored most of the time. Our cabin steward Jorge was the most polite and hardest working guy. Honestly, getting to know the staff and crew, you realize they work long hours, 7 days a week. They work harder than I ever have and live in cramp quarters. So, I appreciate the people & the work they do but the ship, food and amenities were lacking.

The staff was great! Very respctful. Dana, Kevin & Shreta kept me entertained on an otherwise bad journey. Our cabin steward Jorge was awesome too!

OMG I'm so sorry you had a bad cruise please don't give up lol wow I've been on theGem 4times the Jewel once & going back on the Gem in Oct...... I absolutely love Norwegian I keep going back For some reason it sucks when you have a bad experience I know its such a turn off I've been there before with a bad vacation a bad hotel I've never been on a different cruise line but from what I have heard from other people Norwegian happens to be one of the nicest I'm sure something was nice the people that work on that ship can't be any nicer the washy washy guys at the buffet but it might not be for you that's what I thought 5 cruisers ago and I did this same Florida Bahamas 5 times I think I was on every excursion and anything you do! do have a question for you you said the food was not good not being nosey did you eat any of the restaurants or did you do like the captains thing? because honestly restaurants I'm using the Italian is so good Cagney's if you like steak is good not a French food person but we get a brunch there it was ok but honestly we do the buffet a lot of we like the food so much variety I never did any of those dining room with the captain dinner so I don't know how the food is I'm really sorry you had a bad cruise it happens don't give up actually that breakaway ship I was on the Belt Parkway by the Verrazano Bridge last Sunday that boat is huge it has a big 5 more decks & I actually saw the pools slide & I was a good distance away.......THATS MY NEXT CRUISE!!!!!!

my first thought was who goes on a cruise to sit and play on their phone or watch tv. but its vacation and you get to do what you want. we are going on our first cruise Feb 2017, on the gem. can't wait. note to self... bring tp? lol

Who cares about toilet paper? Relax people. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion (even you). if they feel that it wasn't the cruise for them then so be it. No need to be classless and rude. I'm not someone who feels it necessary to comment on every single post on Ship Mate (tennisman1982) but when I saw this it sure didn't make me feel that it was necessary to lash out..please..grow up.

I guess I don't understand how you even got the opportunity to try the toilet paper on board given that you so conveniently packed SIX rolls of Cottenelle toilet paper in your luggage? Who does that???

Sorry to hear that jayeffay 😕 I love NCL and have nothing but wonderful things to say about them. I hope, even though you had some...misfortunes we'll say, you give it another try. I can say from my experience of cruising with them on 3 different ships that this is not the norm..i'm cruising on the Gem in January and I can't wait!! Now on the other hand..I would hate to miss my METS!!! ☺
