If you like to wait in line a lot and being lied to by senior ships personnel, then go for it. If you want to spend a couple of hours in a port that you were supposed to be in for 8 hours because of the cruise line being negligent and dishonest, then go for it. If you want sub par food and terrible service, then go for it. If you want to be nickle and dimed to death and be hit with hidden charges, then go for it. I had some advise from my parents, other cruisers, and Internet research and this was nothing like I was expecting (NOT IN A GOOD WAY).
Embarkation
1 out of 5
Lines were slow and cluttered. People were crowding and not held responsible. Overwhelming way to make a first impression.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
Buffet had a lot of choices but most was luke warm and not hot. Specialty restaurants were crowded and hard to get into. One of the specialty restaurants was near our cabin and it reeked of cigarette smoke all of the time. We had to walk past it to go almost anywhere. It would have been nice to have some water at some point instead of having to go down to the buffet every time I wanted some water. The bars would not give out water. I need to have a lot of water to stay hydrated. I found myself getting very dehydrated because of this.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Games were fun but disorganized. Hot tubs were warm. No rock climbing wall. Rope course was partially closed most of the time.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
Comedians were OK. Shows were fun. Couldn't understand some of the announcers and performers.
Children's Programs
Did not bring children.
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
Room steward was good. She did not have to check the room so often. Most people were friendly and greeted you with a smile and good morning/afternoon.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
It was fairly clean. There was a terrible cigarette smell from one of the restaurants near our cabin 24 hours a day.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
As expected. We did not spend much time there.
Ship tip
The ship in not where it is supposed to be when it was. They were dishonest about what was going on and made excuses. We saw them loading the ship with food and supplies after we were suppose to leave and they said it was because of ship traffic and they were still putting on supplies 3 hours late. They also were dishonest about debarkation. They said they were only allowed on tender at a time in the port which was dishonest. We saw them loading other tenders that were specifically for higher paying ships customers. The tenders were not fully loaded and caused a 4 hour delay getting off of the ship. Very disorganized.
The excursion was a great experience but we could not spend much time on it because of the four hour disembarkation process which was the cruise lines fault and they tried to cover up by being dishonest.
Being stuck on a Norwegian ship to being stuck on a Norwegian monopoly owned island. Not exactly my idea of getting off of the ship. Very small. Long walk to the town from the ship.
Did excursion. Snorkel and beach fun. We would have been able to make another snorkel dive but of course this was another tender fiasco. Only 2 hours behind schedule for this excursion.
One last way for Norwegian to show us they did not have a clue on how to organize anything. Moving from one line to another longer line is not making progress. Again terrible cell phone service at the port. Food quality and service tanked on this day. Everyone was just wanting to get off of the ship. Herding people like cattle again.
Either you have way too high of expectations of a cruise line or you have way too high of expectations of a cruise line. I was on the Escape twice and both times were amazing. Although some food item are repetitive, there is always choices of other foods. Rope course is usually open only on port days, but during high winds its kept closed for safety reasons.....go figure. BTW, if you want water, just go to your sink and grab a glass that's provided just for that purpose. The water coming out of the faucet is clean, purified and probably cleaner than the water in those plastic bottles that are destroying our planet.
