Loved Bermuda. The weather wasn’t on our side this time at sea. Heavy seas most of the time with rain and wind. Luckily we have done this itinerary before so we know how nice this cruise can be. We were a little disappointed in the Escape though. Compared to the Breakaway, which we did the same itinerary 2 years ago, this ships quality didn’t compare. We still made it good and had a mostly enjoyable time. Came back home and within a few days had a respiratory infection which I still haven’t 100% kicked yet.
Embarkation

Not smooth at first. We were never given any boarding number. We asked about it at check in and were told to just wait until all the boarding numbers had been called then we could board. We have cruised quite a few times so we knew this wasn’t right. Thankfully I found a man in the latitudes group heading out boarding passes and he looked at my sail and sign card and gave me the number 7. Good number to have an early board. Thanks to this, my daughter was able to schedule her massage at the spa for our last Sea day.

Food and Dining

The buffet wasn’t as good as on the Breakaway. A lot of the same choices each day. But the food was hot and most of it was good. We ate at La Cucina and Cagneys which were delicious. Our third choice was Bayamo which is now Ocean Blue. Not worth the upcharge Of extra $12 a person. They don’t allow you to have an appetizer, salad and meal. They only let you choose a soup, or salad or appetizer. Only one out of the three. I would have liked maybe a salad and a appetizer. The entree was good. The dessert. Okay. Will it choose this Bayamo option again. And the atmosphere at this restaurant which is supposed to be so high end was just way to noisy. No door to separate the restaurant from the loud bar.
Onboard Activities

We did spice h20 when we could get a seat or the weather permitted. The atrium was always so crowded but we did pull up a seat for the ABBA tribute and we stood to watch the Newlywed game and a few other things. It was just way way to crowded there. The theater would have been a better option to hold a lot of the activities.
Entertainment

The show Choir of Man was amazing. The other show Cotton Club was also good. The dinner show in the Manhattan room was good too. The glow party was way to loud as were most of the parties in H20 at night. The Breakaway has a bigger area for the adult parties at night.

Ship Quality

I still feel for as large is the ship is the common areas are very small. Not a lot of areas to tuck yourself away. Nor is their much in the way of slightly quiet areas. And the middle of the ship on deck 6,7,8 is super smoke filled. We would have liked to go to the Skyline Bar in the evenings for dancing or listen to music but each time we tried to go it was crazy loud, and very smoke filled. Not enjoyable. And I had my 29 year old daughter with me and she didn’t even want to stay there.
Cabin / Stateroom

The suites decor is a little dated. Maybe isn’t an accent color that is very relaxing. The mini suites on the Breakaway were laid out nicer and had neutral color sofas. Beds were like rocks. The temperature of the room would be nice and cool at night then during the middle of the night we would wake up hot and sweaty. Had to get up and click it to cool or cooler. Plenty of storage. Compared to our room steward on the Breakaway this steward did not keep the room as clean. The mirrors in the living area were dirty and streaky from day one. I don’t think the room was ever vacuumed either. The bathroom was kept clean. The balcony was dirty when we got on the ship and it wasn’t until after we were in Bermuda did it seem a little cleaner. The cleanliness standards in the cabins on this ship did not come close to other cruises I have been on.
I love Bermuda. Beautiful place, easy to get around. We did an excursion to Horseshoe Bay. Beautiful beach. We went to Hamilton for Harbour Nights. Loved that. Shopping the dockyard on the last day was really nice too.
We picked the last to get off the ship and we thought when we got off it would go smoothly as everyone else should have gotten off already. There was a huge back up at customs. So much so they stopped calling anyone. Then we were called and waited in an hour line to finally get to customs. Not sure what was going on that day but disembarking was a nightmare.
