Review summary

I love sailing on the Escape and don’t mind what others may see as a deterrent. Yes the seas can be a little rocky when we leave NYC and depending on the month, it can be a little or a lot chilly but the staff and what the ship offers brings me back every time. I love that senior leaders make walking rounds and truly care about their guests. I can’t imagine not sailing in a “freestyle” environment. I had made friends with other cruisers and staff and it feels like I’m with family each time. Venues like the District BrewHouse, the Vibe and Food Republic are exactly my style and taste and that is where I spend the majority of my time. I thinking cruising can be extremely subjective and I’ve been lucky enough to find a line and ship that meets all my needs and what I’m looking for.

I panicked when I saw how long the lines were but honestly it moved quickly and took maybe an hour from start to finish.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

I am a foodie and I was overall really happy. Here’s the thing, the food was hot, the service in the MDR were excellent and while the food didn’t blow the roof off, I thought it was really good. For me personally, the Manhattan DR was a little loud but given the size and the entertainment, it was probably a given. It certainly didn’t deter from my meal or enjoyment. For me the standouts were LeBistro and Food Republic for specialty restaurants. Le Bistro has an excellent wine list and the variety in FR is endless.

Onboard Activities

I didn’t use any of these but I spent a lot of time at the Madeira Spa 😊

Entertainment

Oh my goodness... Choir of Men was exceptional! Literally those boys brought the thunder! Jo Rochell was the piano player in the BrewHouse and she rocked the house every night she played and then Howl at the Moon, the dueling pianos... seriously I wished they had played every single night.

Service and Staff

Ravi and Curly in the District BrewHouse were undeniably (in my opinion) the best bartenders on the ship! Edward and Alfi their counterparts were equally exceptional as well. I was greeted by name and my drink was ready before I even asked. The comradery between them and the guests was such a fun dynamic that you felt like you were hanging out with friends. Every minute I spent in the BH I wanted for nothing! And the beer... they’ve got 24 beers on tap not to mention their other selections. I thought I had died and gone to heaven!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
For me, I’ve been on the Escape 3 previous times so I’m very comfortable with where everything is. The ship was spotless and staff were always working to ensure that it stayed that way.

Cabin / Stateroom

So I was in a studio and it was my first time. It did not disappoint at all and the value was fantastic. Yes, it is small and honestly I had a lot of hesitation not being in a balcony room but this room was perfect for one person and I didn’t feel cramped at all. The fact that it wasn’t a balcony made me get out and enjoy more of the ship. And truthfully there may have been even more storage or at least it seemed that way. Easy to get in and out of closets and suitcases fit easily under the bed as well which was great.

Ship tip

Really take your time and get to know the ship prior to sailing, you’ll be glad you did. For those who have sailed in her before don’t be afraid to branch out and try new venues, there really is so much to see and do on the ship.

I fell in love with Bermuda. I decided to just see 2 beaches, 2 pubs/ restaurants, a ferry ride and then the third day just enjoy walking close to the ship. I went to Sommerset and Elbow Beach, both of which aren’t super popular and it was such a great choice for me. It was quiet and peaceful and serene... everything I could’ve wanted. I only saw locals and I loved that as well. I wanted to try and experience Bermuda as a local and I felt like these choices allowed me to do so. I can’t wait to go back and see more.

Took a bit of time and elevators were as expected crowded but I think from start to finish it took me a little over an hour.
