Review summary

We absolutely enjoyed our cruise with Norwegian on the Escape and do plan on going on another one next year. We have cruised twice now with Norwegian, on both the Escape and the Jewel (Alaska). We are going to do Bermuda next!!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Upon boarding, our luggage was taken from us by one of the stewards who said it would be delivered before 7 p.m. We made it through customs and had an area to sit and wait for boarding to begin. This area offered coffee, juice, and cold water. Once on board, we were guided to the first desks to set up our on board accounts. This whole process went very smoothly with a lot of members of the Norwegian team around to guide us through the process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate at the Garden Cafe for all our breakfasts and did not have a bad experience not once. We enjoyed Dinner at Teppanyaki - that is something to experience! We loved Savor and Taste and also Moderno as well as Le Bistro. Very enjoyable dining experiences in the specialty restaurants as well as Savor and Taste.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We loved the Grotto!! We enjoyed the pool area on a few days. I had read it was overly crowded, but that seemed to be on port days - some people, I guess, just don't leave the ship and that is their prerogative. We did not participate in activities, but enjoyed watching the games and shows immensely! We loved the upstairs bar above the Atrium because we could sit and watch the shows in the Atrium, or enjoy drinks and play pool.

Entertainment

All musicians were phenomenal!! The comedian we got to see was from Cleveland, Ohio, our hometown!!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Waiters, room stewards, and other ship personnel were so accommodating, you felt like royalty. They never were seen without a smile on their face ready to serve, and they serve so well, I was embarrassed at times because I don't feel I am of the stature that I should be served - I'm a nurse - so I serve in real life and don't get served. Very enjoyable people.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The design of the ship was wonderful. All areas seemed to be clean and if a table in the Garden Cafe needed to be wiped and had not yet been wiped when we sat down (you had to hurry to grab a seat!), they would come right over and clean it off.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved my cabin - balcony rooms are the way to go! I sat out there and took photos of ports as we arrived, sunsets, and even the full moon!

Ship tip

Never, EVER, think you are going to see everything on the ship or everything in the ports in one visit! We plan to travel again soon! And hope to do so on the Escape!

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

We walked from our hotel (East, Miami) to Bubba Gumps that night because that's our favorite Florida restaurant. Miami was nice, but we went on no excursions. We didn't have time.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

We shopped, but did not do an excursion. It happened to fall on the day we had woke to Fox News reports of the Vegas shootings, so we were afraid to trust local cab drivers that day and stayed close to the ship. Honduras was a beautiful place, though!

Harvest Caye, Belize

LOVED Belize! We again did not do an excursion, but the port was beautiful.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

We did the Mayan Ruins in Chacchoben - this was phenomenal. Our guide, Luis, was wonderful!!

Cozumel, Mexico

This was my favorite. We swam with the dolphins for our excursion. It was an all-inclusive excursion so we had unlimited drinks, and food, and the experience with the dolphins was something we will never forget. The shopping area was phenomenal!! There were so many things to see and buy - we preferred the souvenir shops over the commercial stores - all staff was friendly and helpful.

Disembarkation

This was amazingly organized. We had sent our luggage the night before. Once we paid for our bus ride to Ft. Lauderdale airport, we went through the gates to go to pick up our luggage, and a porter came up to us and helped us find the luggage, cart the luggage, and waited for us to go through customs and took us right to our bus. This was service at its finest!
