Review summary

Very dissatisfied. Had visited the ports that were substituted many times before. Expected much better for cost. To compensate for change in the itinerary it would have nice to have been compensated with a complimentary specialty dinner for the inconvenience.

We are celebrating our 30th anniversary with my parents who are celebrating their 60th, my brother and sister in law who are celebrating their 3rd and my little sister and her new fiance. We have a lot to celebrate๐Ÿ˜„

Wish i could go sooner too. Really in need of some vacations. But 115 days for me until my cruise. But honestly for once, I donโ€™t mind waiting that long cause Iโ€™ll be celebrating my birthday on my cruise. Iโ€™ll be enjoying the sun with a drink in hand while back home, they will be cold and buried in snow.

wish you were going sooner Charlou... I would love to meet my shipmate๐Ÿšข๐ŸŽฐ๐Ÿธ

Charlou    7 years ago

@mdgodwin. Why did you get an extra OBC?

SunriseCruiser    7 years ago

Is there a "formal" night?

Yashu    7 years ago

Charlou that is the best way to cruise. ๐Ÿ˜

I always book a cruise because of the ship first. Then the ports, but honestly, the ports don't matter. I'll be on board an amazing cruise ship that's like a five star hotel. I don't have to cook or clean. I just have to relax and enjoy. I always find something to do, either on the ship or at port. I just go with the flow. I think it's the best way to fully enjoy a cruise.

You should just be glad you're safe

Unbelievable

USMale    7 years ago

So your itinerary changed. Would rather revisit a previous port of call and enjoy a beach and snorkel day than ride out a storm.

USMale    7 years ago

#some people can't be pleased

In all honesty, you should never cruise just for the port of calls, cruise lines cannot predict the weather. Be happy NCL made the right call at least you cruised and didn't get thrown around in rough seas.

mdgodwin    7 years ago

last yr they had ships anchored down in the middle of the storm.

Cruising the 9th on the Escape leaving Port of Miami headed to Bahamas. It's probably to early to tell but if the hurricane hits the Bahamas and part of Florida will they just make a detour and go to other ports. How often are trips canceled? how will you know if it gets canceled? fingers crossed

Well said yashu๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Šโ›ด

When on a vacation and a cruise it is the best attitude to go with. You have to remember that mother nature is out of our control and we have to just make the best of it.

GIL155    7 years ago

yashu - such a nice, positive attitude. Would cruise with you anytime!

Charlou    7 years ago

Like the way you think @yashu.

Yashu    7 years ago

agree with OceanSky about it all. Changes do happen due to weather and it is the Captain's discretion for the safety of the ship and all the passengers. it is in the contract. I've had changes in the past and never griped about it one bit. Maybe I should have complained about the rough waves I was in one night.... oh hell no because I was still on vacation having a beautiful time with my family rather then stuck at home working.

Charlou    7 years ago

Hope it's not cancelled and that you have the best cruise ever. ๐Ÿ›ณโ˜€๏ธโ˜€๏ธโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿน๐Ÿน๐Ÿน๐ŸŽ‰โš“๏ธ

I'm getting on the escape sept 9th....fingers crossed its not canceled

terriesanchez    7 years ago

Neither would anyone else GIL155๐Ÿ˜‰

GIL155    7 years ago

Oh, my! If I handled change at work this way. Well, I do not think I would be employed.

OceanSky    7 years ago

@ mgodwin - if you're one of those lucky folks who doesn't have a connecting flight to catch or some ace you need to be, it's wonderful! We had 2 extra days on the Ecstasy, and for me it felt like a bonus! They repeated the same dinner menus we had used on the first 2 nights (but no extra formal night!), and the only thing I believe we ran out of was Lucky Charms cearel.

mdgodwin    7 years ago

Extra days would be nice too lol

mdgodwin    7 years ago

I was wondering that myself about the 4 stars lol. My boyfriend and I are going in three weeks. I pray for great weather and no cancelation. I'll be happy just being on the ship. I'm ok even if they have to reroute.

terriesanchez    7 years ago

Well said OceanSky!

OceanSky    7 years ago

It's always disappointing when there a change of ports on a cruise (it happened to me on my last cruise, too!). But if you read the contract you agreed to when you booked, it clearly stated that ports may be changed or omitted at the Captain's discretion. That's the rule, and that's what you agreed to. And while a complimentary specialty dinner might have been nice, the fact is, thanks to Hurricane Harvey, a crap load of people not only had their itineraries changed, they also had extra days added to their cruises ( which they were NOT charged for, including their meals!). And there were also a large number of cruises that were canceled (and passengers refunded) because of port closings. Face it, the cruise industry is a BUSINESS, andike most other businesses, they are in it to make a profit. And handing out 3000+ free steak dinners on a week with so many canceled cruises, would cut even further into their limited profit for that week. And, as I wrote in the beginning of my post, you agreed to a possible change of port WITHOUT Compensation when you booked your cruise. That's one of the risks you take when you book during the cheaper hurricane season.

terriesanchez    7 years ago

There was a hurricane for heavens sake .... so you changed ports... so you've been there before. It's better than them canceling the cruise and you staying home! Any day on a cruise is better than a day at work!

Charlou    7 years ago

If you were so dissatisfied, why the 4 stars then? The ports were probably changed for safety reasons due to the hurricane. Better be safe then sorry. And you should tell NCL about this, it's the only way you will get compensation and the only way they will improve on their way of doing things.
