Review summary

My husband and I have been cruised...a lot. We've tried Royal Caribbean and Carnival, but once we tried Norwegian, we've never looked back. We are now Gold members and the perks of sticking with Norwegian are pretty nice!

Ship tip

Keep a close eye on your account charges. We were told that we'd receive a complimentary bottle of water for being Gold members, and we were $6.49 per bottle. The charge was eventually taken off, but we had to make a couple of attempts before the charge was reversed.

Where do you buy these stock shares everyone is talking about?

aquawater    7 years ago

Oh I might add I only ate what was completely and loved it.... I want to Escape again

Oh my, this was the least rocky ship I have ever been on and we went during hurricane Matthew and I was surprised I wasn't feeling the ship sway. I loved the food, some plates were fantastic others were just good. Oh and the desserts..... I loved the Manhattan room with the live jazzy style music. At O'Sheaan I had a Ruben sandwich or chipotle chicken was so good. The Escape is my favorite ship so far! Loved it

Wtf-etc.... Yes you get $100 OBC on cruises up to 14 days and $250 over that (albeit there hardly are any). You get that even if you have other perks (as we did). I booked a total of 8 NCL cruises for 2017/18 and then out of curiosity looked up whether there were shareholder benefits. Because of those benefits I bought the shares which cost just short of $5k. We took the first two cruises in Apr/May (back to back on the Jade). I got $100 OBC on each as they were a 7 day & 14 day, they don't roll them up to give you the 14+ $250. The shareholder's office emailed confirmations when I submitted the requests and I printed those to take with me but all was done correctly by NCL. I always pay for everything upfront so the $200 OBC more or less covered our incidentals. The only bill I got was for some cruise next vouchers we bought. The only drawback is needing the $5000 to invest and leave I guess, but in our case the return is excellent, 10% this year and 6% for 2018 even if I don't book anymore trips next year.

LobsterPot, a 10% return is super and a super smart play since you can get your 5k back today. Tax free income from OBCs, smart! The shareholder OBC of $100 is given regardless of all other credits you may receive ? I lose some OBCs on Royal if I receive their Crown and Anchor credit ( I don't have any position in Royal, btw)

LobsterPot    7 years ago

My last post should read 10% not 5% for those of you that like to play with NASDAQ stock....

We love NCL but also enjoy every other cruise line too. We bought the stock (circa $5000 to qualify for OBC) as we cruise frequently so approx 5 cruises p.a. @ $100 each gives 5% return without dividend. (The stock is circa $50). In our experience the bigger ships are far better for entertainment and the smaller ships best for food. The recent survey which put Jade tops for food & Epic tops for entertainment is spot on. Escape is our preferred ship overall....

NCLH stock, 52 week range $34-56/share and no dividends paid for the past year. No yield and only a $ 100 cruise credit for a shareholder, probably not a Jim Cramer buy recommendation.

Escape is a narrow ship so hence why you might feel the rocking a big more. I did feel it during one night when ocean was probably rough...didn't make me sick and this is coming from someone who occasionally experience vertigo. I also like the rocking while I'm sleeping; that's when I know I'm truly on a cruise. All the food I ate was great...3 specialty restaurants...2 of the MDR, O'Sheehans, and the Buffet. The taste of Food is (partially) subjective so what one person dislike you might very well love. Always remember that people's personal experience is just that....theirs! I would cruise again on The Escape in a minute but in the meantime my suitcase is out for Carnival Victory in 9 days.

Thanks all!! I'm looking forward to our July cruise on the Escape!

Did the Escape, did not feel "unsturdy"or overly shaky. The food was awesome, the service was flawless. We loved it and can't wait for next year when it takes over the Bermuda trips. Love the Escape!

I think cece is right, princess is great and similar to ncl

cece1951    7 years ago

You would like Princess too then!!

jacmac    7 years ago

it probably has something to do with the design of the ship. maybe it doesn't have the same stabilizers as other big ships.

lisamarie727    7 years ago

I have been on several cruises but never have I gotten seasick.. Why do these ships rock more than others?

jacmac    7 years ago

lisamarie727, we are primarily RC cruisers too, but we also like NCL. I was on the Getaway, which is the same class as the Escape. It was probably the most rocking I have ever experienced on a ship. I slept great because I like the rocking, but others in our group got seasick (but don't normally). You might want to take some seasickness remedies with you! other than that, the ship is really great. Lots to do, good food, nice layout.

lisamarie727    7 years ago

I guess what makes me nervous is everyone saying the Escape isn't sturdy and you can feel it swaying in the ocean and the food sucks.. Coming from rc where everything is fantastic that makes me pause to wonder..

twangster    7 years ago

There are bad reviews of every ship. You almost have to filter out the one star reviews and ignore them. A cruise is what you make it combined with having realistic expectations.

lisamarie727    7 years ago

I am glad to hear this because we have been royal carribean cruisers until this norwegian escape cruise coming up in July.. I've heard some not great reviews and it's been making me nervous!

picalo    7 years ago

that stock has grown like a weed since I bought it...so I'm growing with the Market whilst saving 100 bucks...but your comment is very funny, I know what you meant😂😏winky face here

twangster    7 years ago

Hmmm, 100 shares @ $220 per share, and all I would get is $100 off? That sounds like some of the shopping deals my ex would find that 'saved' us money. However I am tempted to try NCL again, it's been a while for me.

picalo    7 years ago

ncl is great! if you haven't already done so buy at least 100 shares of stock, enjoy $100 OFF per cruise on top of your best deal. also have you bought those prepaid cruise credits on board...aren't those great
