Review summary

We would cruise on the Epic again in a heartbeat!

Embarkation

Super quick embarkation. For there early and we were in group one. I'd much rather sit for an hour and a half until getting on the ship than come later and stand in line that long.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Buffet was standard fair, a little disappointing that there were no Eggs Benedict like on other NCL ships and what's with the raisins in the French toast? Quite enjoyed breakfasts at O'sheehans and Taste and it was nice to order up the complimentary continental breakfast and for the price of a tip, enjoy this out on our balcony before starting our day. Great meals at all restaurants - we tried Taste, Teppanyaki, Cagneys, La Cucina and Moderno plus a meal with our Cirque show.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Pools were always crowded but since we aren't big swimmers we enjoyed going up to the more private deck 18 (the non Haven area) and enjoying the padded lounge chairs at the front of the ship. As long as we were up there by 11 we had no problems getting two padded loungers together. Quite enjoyed the Ice Bar. Missed out on the Escape room, totally booked up.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Loved Howl at the Moon (duelling pianos) as well as Priscilla and the Beatles. Cirque and the Comedians were 'ok'. Great time as always at the 80s night as well as Norwegian Glow night.

Children's Programs

No children with us

Service and Staff

Although we didn't see her much, Gemma our room steward was always very friendly and efficient and was receptive and quick to fill any requests - more hangers, extra pillows, mattress topper.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Beautiful ship, wierd to land in the middle of the art gallery when getting off the elevator on that floor, different than other NCL ships. Loved the more private deck 18 for laying in the sun. Cavern Club is NOT the place to hold the Beatles - not near big enough. They do have a show the first night in the Epic theater but I guess due to scheduling the remaining shows are in the smaller Cavern which holds less than 100 people including those standing on a ship of 4000. We were lucky to stand and watch once (fantastic show!) but would have seen them more if there was a larger venue for them. Atrium as always is too small for the shows they hold there.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We knew ahead of time that the cabin washrooms were a different set up so we had braced ourselves. Not that bad actually. Close the curtain if you want privacy and we always had the Do Not Disturb on our door when we were in there so no worries of the steward walking in. Pooporri is your friend! Be sure to bring some! Plenty of storage in the cabin - extra under the sofa as well as the back of the sofa opens up and there are cubbies inside. Nice sized medicine cabinet and an extra cupboard over the bed. 4 suitcases fit underneath the bed. Bring a light up travel makeup mirror for makeup and shaving, lighting is poor. I also recommend a non surge protected power bar/cube as outlets are limited to the one under the coffee machine. We brought one with USB ports for charging my phone (used for taking pictures) and for charging my mirror. We also brought a 6ft extension cord to run my travel fan by the head of the bed, a 9ft would have worked better and prevented the tripping hazard of the shorter cord run tight across the room. The large balcony with 2 loungers, 2 chairs and a small table was wonderful!

Ship tip

Pack patience, smile and enjoy yourself; you're on vacation! Seek out deck 18, you won't regret it. Check out the bridge viewing room on deck 13, super cool.

No excursion but hotel was pleasant and centrally located and shuttle from the car rental was quick and efficient.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas Did not visit port

Too windy for tender, did not stop.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Sketchy at the port. Left quickly and did the Bobsled excursion and then shopped there. Great time!

George Town, Grand Cayman

Beautiful port, upscale stores, more expensive. Just wandered and headed back to the ship.

Harvest Caye, Belize

Nice selection of shops. Dis some paddleboarding and rented a clamshell for $38 for some well needed shade. Enjoyed the sun and some.cold beverages. Very pretty island. We had done the Superman zipline last cruise so this time just took it easy.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
Salsa Salsa (make Guacamole and 2 salsa, learn to dance the salsa and then enjoy an hour beach time). This also included 2 STRONG margaritas each and tasting or 8 different tequilas afterwards. Fantastic time! Could have done without all the vendors approaching you with merchandise or offering massages continuously before and after while waiting for our bus back.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We chose a non NCL excursion and did the Amazing Raxe Cozumel and had a FANTASTIC time!! Exploring Cozumel that we wouldn't normally see while solving clues and ending with 2 drinks, guacamole and chips at a restaurant while they gave out your results and medals. Then walked down the road towards the pier to the Thirsty Cougar for mile high chocolate peanut butter margaritas, daiquiris and nachos. Amazing day!

Disembarkation

Speedy quick. Off at 945, grabbed our bags and then a porter and zoomed right out to our shuttle.
