Review summary

People need to stop complaining and enjoy the cruise. Other than a couple of small details, everything was good. After reading some other reviews, I have come to the conclusion that some people are just not happy unless they are complaining about something.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very fast and efficient. Got onboard a lot sooner than expected.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Not the selection that RC has, but still good. The peppercorn sauce is wonderful. If you go hungry on this ship, you did something wrong. There is always somewhere to eat. 24/7.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
It's a fun ship with lots to do. Wish there was more for the family. Even the movies in the Atrium weren't always suitable for kids. And that's a public area.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Please see review for activities.

Children's Programs

Kids did not participate.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Very friendly. Not as much as other ships, but still good.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
There is no flow to this ship. It's hard to get from place to place. Not all of the elevators go to all of the floors. To get to the sports deck, which my kids used a lot, they had to go thru the adults only section. The open areas however, were very open. Unlike other ships, there were many places that almost made it feel like you weren't on a boat, just because it wasn't cramped or congested. Very very good this way.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
I have read lots of reviews about these cabins, and frankly, I think people are just trying to find something to complain about. Yes, the cabins are not huge. Yes, the design does not leave a lot of room to maneuver. But, they have ample storage, are comfortable, and, considering that your cabin is the one place you spend the least amount of time, they are just fine. The only 2 complaints, if I had to find something, are that there is not a lot of lighting, and like most people, I am NOT a fan of the bathroom set up. Having the toilet and shower in full view of the cabin, and limited privacy for both because of the design, makes this the worst part of the room. But, I have yet to be on a ship where the cabin was perfect. I don't really care either. The cabin is a place to shower and sleep. I can put up with some things.

Ship tip

Bring extension cords or adapters. Only 2 US outlets in the room. 2 UK outlets as well. Also, If you want to see a show, especially a comedy show, book early. The first day they were boomed already.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5

Nassau, Bahamas

1 out of 5
Nassau still sucks. It's like being the only person with water walking thru the desert. People just won't leave you alone.

Falmouth, Jamaica

4 out of 5
Falmouth was nice, but a few too many jewellery stores. Things were a bit pricey. But, not much different than most other ports.

George Town, Grand Cayman

4 out of 5
Would have been much better had there not been 3 other ships in port. Was a bit crowded. However, not too bad and everything is pretty close to the port.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

5 out of 5
Great beach. Plenty of food and drinks. Don't have to go far from the ship (or tender) to be in the middle of it all. Had some rain and the water was a bit cold, but no one said mother nature was a nice woman.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Went very fast. Port Canaveral is on of the better ports around. They know what they're doing.

Janetd1947.... I believe it was the cruise director on the Epic who said "people see this big ship and all that it holds, then they go into their cabin, sit on their bed, put their feet up on the toilet and say 'hey, where's all the space'. We make the cabins so small cause that's where you'll be spending the lease amount of time... unless you're on your honeymoon". He ain't lying.

I will be on the Epic in 40 days and looking forward to it. I have a studio room and very excited, after reading all the reviews I have decided that this will be a fantastic cruise. I don’t care haw small the room is, I don’t plan on spending much time in there! WooHoo!!

This will be our 3rd NCL Cruise, we were on the Jewel to Alaska and the people on there were pretty good. 2nd one was on the Dawn and I wasn’t a fan on the people on that trip, they were rude and inconsiderate....we’ll see how next week goes. I know that we’ll have fun and I’ll let the grumps be grumpy! We’ll be the family making the most of our time together having a blast!

ddswach    6 years ago

I did tell some of them that. I would ask... would you rather have to wait for a drink on a cruise ship or at home?

We just cruised on the Epic during Thanksgiving and it seemed as though people were constantly complaining...at the bar, in the elevators, at the pool. I love to meet new people and make small talk, not hear your gripes about how crummy your cruise is. We have cruised with Norwegian twice and I know everything isn’t always going to go perfectly, but I have had a blast both times. You’re in paradise...make the best of your short time there, you crotchety, old geezer! 😂 At least that’s what I wanted to tell them!

I feel obligated to mention this...The real problem we had with the Epic was... The other people. Some of you have been on this boat, so maybe you can confirm this. Unlike other ships I've been on, the people on this ship seem to be more rude. They acted like they deserved to be there more than me. RC is a bit more "upscale" than NCL, but I never had a problem with another passenger. Carnival had some rudeness at the muster drill. Like 15 minutes without a drink was gonna kill them. But, none of them compared to the rudeness I experienced on this ship. Just plain rude, obnoxious, self centered people. I made more than one comment to several people. I don't put up with rude people. Not sure if it was just this particular cruise, or if Epic attracts a-holes, or maybe just NCL in general. Perhaps some of you that have cruised NCL and or Epic can confirm this? Still had a good time. I won't let someone else ruin my vacation. I wait too long to let that happen.

A vacation is what you make of it and a day cruising is better than working so I agree I’m on the epic in 40 days

Thanks for the tips! My son loves the wings at O’Sheehans, our last cruise I think he went every day! Lol....can’t wait for the drinks too!

We leave in 89 days as well..getting really excited to try a Norwegian cruise.

ddswach    6 years ago

Awesome Colleen. You'll have fun. The "if you know it, sing it" show was fun. Wasn't like others I've seen. Try the Thai Chili wings at O'Sheehans. I must have had those at least a dozen times. They are sooooo good. Thai Chili wings and a Miami Vice to drink. Good times. Gooooood times.

Thanks! I feel some people always have to have something to complain about, even on vacation.....I started this countdown at 410 days.....and now we’re days away!

ddswach    6 years ago

Also, I hope you guys have good time. My next cruise countdown is back to 361 days. 😣

ddswach    6 years ago

It really was a good ship. Some minor issues, but overall, not bad. I had a few conversations with people who were complaining about different things, and I asked each and every one of them... Would you rather have this issue on a cruise ship or at home?
