Review summary

Ship was too big and overcrowded for the itinerary. Ship is not designed for the Caribbean. Food service mediocre. Nickel and dimed by NCL for all add-ons. Pricing quickly balloons to that of more premium lines with smaller ships and better service. Will not sail NCL again.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Very fast due to speciality access line for families with wheel chairs or strollers.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
MDR food was hit or miss. Sometimes too hot or too cold. Sometimes too bland and mushy. Salads were over-dressed. Service was slow due to the nature of the freestyle dining. Everyone crowds the restaurant between 630-730pm. Service takes 90+ minutes. Buffet was always crowded and food was often under or over cooked. Drinks were never made the same way twice. Specialty dining was good because it wasn’t crowded and allowed the kitchen staff the time they needed to prep food appropriately. But this standard should apply across the ship. Also, coffee on board is terrible and always stale/cold or bitter.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Impossible to find any room in the pool deck due to the design of the ship. Back third is taken up by go karts and laser tag and water slide. Front third is taken up by vibe and haven and observation deck. This ship was built for Alaska not the Caribbean.

Entertainment

Did not attend any shows

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
Our child spent their time in the guppies room because they were too young for the actual kids programming with a counselor. It was nice to have a playroom with toys available but it would have been great to see actual programming with staff.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Room steward was good but did not spend any extra time with us. This was okay. But

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
Ship is not a suitable design for Caribbean vacations. All public spaces are insanely crowded and ship layout means that forward elevators are always mobbed and aft are always empty. Not efficient.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Good size, efficient use of space, clean enough. Carpets are beginning to show wear and tear. Bathroom was good.

Ship tip

Do not sail this ship to Caribbean itineraries.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

4 out of 5

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

4 out of 5

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

5 out of 5

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

3 out of 5
Beautiful island experience that is ruined by the lack of a dock. The need for tendering takes 2 hours off the time you can spend on the island. And the port is often canceled due to wind.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Off the ship in 5 minutes. Elevators were easily available for early walk off. Facial scanners used by CBP were fast.
