We enjoyed it but prefer RC as we liked the atmosphere more and open areas of the ship
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Very much in the dark ages where you have to queue up and see a desk clerk. They need to move with the times and allow online checkin and swift embarkation, as RC are doing
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Food absolutely fantastic. Indian station at buffet fabulous. Can’t fault it as we never had a bad meal
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
They have the standard activities such as quizzes etc but we were disappointed about all of the extra charges. For example the adults only solarium costs 100 dollars a day whereas it is free on other lines. Lots of other charges for activities and some shows too.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
All good. Loved choir of man and kinky boots. Comedians were the same all
week though and some variety is needed. The two piano singers were excellent as were the bands.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Excellent service all round
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Very clean, new and innovative. There were things that we really liked such as the observation deck but this ship is focussed more like a rabbit Warren and we like
Ships with promenades and larger areas.
We had a mini suite and found that as it was at the front of the ship, the wind made the balcony impossible to use when not in port so we got very little use from it. Also you are overlooked from all of the standard balconies from above so no privacy whatsoever. We were disappointed as this was our first balcony and we probably won’t bother again.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Can’t remember number but it was a mini suite 3 cabins back from the front. There was a tornado on the balcony almost when we were out to see with the furniture lifting off the floor. Room was big and luxurious though.
Ship tip
Make sure you know that you will be charged tax on your drinks when in certain ports. We had the drinks package and were shocked to find we had extra charges. This is naughty and no other lines we have sailed on have charged this. NCL should absorb this cost and not pass on to us. It’s penny pinching after the high cost of the cruise.
I did checkin online but still had to queue up to get passport checked etc. With RC we walked straight up to the ship almost before having passport and set sail barcode checked by member of staff with pda. It was simple and very quick. I was just comparing Norwegian with our Royal Caribbean embarkation experience and Norwegian was very much lacking.
