Review summary

I love Norwegians have always had a wonderful experience. I was so looking forward to taking my daughter on this cruise and paid a lot of money for it. I was so disappointed. Everyday something went wrong! Never any explanation or apologies. There’s nothing memorable about our experience on the Encore!

Embarkation

3 out of 5
It was very crowded and we had to go to Guest Services immediately after coming aboard to sign up for a show “Prohibition “ that was not offered on line and for the Speedway and the Comedy Shows. We we’re incorrectly directed to Guest Services and after standing in line for an hour were told we had to go to the “Social Club and stood in line there for another hour so we spent 2 hours in line before we could go to our cabin or go to lunch! It was just the beginning of a week filled with confusion, disappointment and mistakes!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Specialty Restaurants were understaffed and the food was second rate! The service was good but it didn’t make up for the food. The food at my favorite restaurant Cagney’s was terrible! The lobster tail was dry and seemed pre cooked and reheated. The fillet mignon was dry and also seemed to be reheated. I prepaid for Le Bistro and was rudely turned away and toldI had not prepaid. We went to aManhattan Dining Room and the food and service were excellent. The Maitre De, May treated us like royalty!

Onboard Activities

We were at the pool on the warmest day of our cruise and they closed the pool because some defecated in it and it had to be drained and cleaned! We cancelled theSpeedway because it was raining and winds were about 30-40 mph.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The show were Excellent! The performances were so talented and really involved the audience in the shows!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The Staff for the most part was excellent. Especially the waitstaff and Maitre de May Matranullo in the Manhattan Dining Room. There weren’t enough waiters at the pool and we had to wait a long time for drinks or go to the bar to order ourselves. The waiters were very courteous and helpful but were very understaffed.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
There is very little deck space for the amount of people onboard. I don’t like the fact that you have to pay to use the pool and restaurant Vibe that is free on other ships. The ship was clean but I didn’t care for the layout or design of the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The room was narrow and the beds were shaking at night. There was also a lot of creaking and clanging noises all night. That has never happened on any of the other Norwegian Ships I’be sailed on. Also in the bathroom there was a constant sound of running water. It was so loud we kept the bathroom door closed at night! Also we found the door to the adjoining cabin was left unlocked and neither myself or my daughter had unlocked it.

Ship tip

If you’re making reservations onboard on day one go to the Social Club notGuest Services. Also don’t have high expectations just go with the flow

No excursion but we did have aGreat Porter and he got us and our bags thru customs and straight to a taxi

San Juan, Puerto Rico Did not visit port

We went to get off the ship and it started to rain. It was a torrential downpour and we stayed on the ship. People were returning from the city and said the shops all closed at 6pm because of the weather

We took The Champagne Catamaran Tour that was advertised as feee drinks Onboard and light snack cheese bread and meats. Snorkeling and a beach with a Restaurant and bar and bathroom and we could wade in from the Catamaran. We did not get any drinks or snacks on the way to the Island we were tied up to a mooring a mile away from shore! We were told we could swim to shore but the restaurant and Hotel were closed and had been since they were destroyed in the hurricane 2 years ago! They offered to take us to the island in the dinghy but we would only have an hour there and couldn’t bring any personal belongings so we stayed onboard but were not offered any drinks or food until all the snorkeling people were back onboard and we were sailing back! The excursion was misrepresented on line and had I known the disrepair of the Restaurant Hotel I never would have booked it!

Tortola, British Virgin Islands Did not visit port

I have been ther before and you have to swim a mile to get to the Restaurant Bar on the Island. I found out that the people that took the excursion were not allowed to get off the ship because the water was too rough and it was very windy so I’m happy we didn’t go

We got off the ship very easily and got a porter to take our bags thru customs. I had paid for transfers to the airport but there were3 bus loads of people ahead of us so we got a taxi to the airport instead.
