Review summary

We hope to work with Norwegian to remedy the challenges we had on this cruise. I have always loved them and have been on 4 other cruises with them in the past and have another one scheduled for February. It would be a shame to waste our cruise Next credits due to the poor service on this one sailing, but we need to be assured Norwegian's greed isn't ruining the experience on the ship for us before we stress through another vacation. Cruises are typically the most relaxing vacations we have taken. This one was one of the most stressful :(

Embarkation

pre-arranged wheelchair and still waited 45 min to board the ship

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Food was not as good as past cruises - in particular in Cagney's - steak and lamb were luke warm at best - baked potatoes were room temperature - didn't even melt the butter - disappointing when you are paying extra for a great meal.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
While the activities available are plentiful - they all cost additional $$ so be prepared to spend, spend, spend. We liked Norwegian for the amount that is included and needing to spend very little when you are on the ship. Pretty much all activities are extra on the boat.

Entertainment

The shows we saw were AMAZING!!! You just couldn't get into the others - they were sold out when we boarded the ship and couldn't reserve until we were on board. This is my favorite part of cruising so was very disappointed.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Our 11 year old loved Splash Academy and made two friends that she is planning on staying in touch with. Great to have such friendships be forged over a vacation. Even though she has some special needs the staff was amazing with her and managed her very well!!

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The waiters and beverage servers were very attentive and friendly. Our room steward was very accommodating to our schedule - in particular when I was sick at the beginning during 40ft seas. Even the staff helping us with the errors the 'ground crew' made with our booking was handled very calmly and respectfully - but their didn't have the ability to rectify our issue (even though it was a Norwegian error) and initially told us we'd have to wait until Monday to resolve it when their ground crew was back in the office and that there was nothing they could do in the interim. When we bought the internet package as Latitudes members we are entitled to additional minutes - they weren't awarded at purchase so we checked with the web services team - they had no idea what we were talking about - seems the ships crew should be aware of the promises / policies made when booking and the Norwegian booking team should set the crew up for success.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
being brand new - not much to complain about cleanliness -

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
We booked for 3 and were given this room - which is a two person room. Guest services initially showed us another internal room at the complete other end of the ship from the rest of our family, which we said was not acceptable. They then upgraded us to a balcony room very near our family which was very nice. The booking system should be programmed to ensure you cannot assign a room to someone if it doesn't have enough beds in it.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England Did not visit port

Bad weather - just came down morning of sailing and boarded the ship

New York, New York Did not visit port

We were anxious to get home and after some of the challenges with the ship decided to disembark on Sunday evening and end our trip early.

Disembarkation

Wheelchair service was good and took us to the end of the customs area which was fantastic. We were shouted at by someone working the 'lines' that we could not accompany our parents using the wheelchair service and needed to get in the long line with everyone else. We eventually ignored her and went with our parents - since we were departing together it hardly made sense to tie up a ship's employee while they waited an hour for us to go through the customs line.
