Review summary

We have sailed with NCL before and really liked the it. The freestyle cruising was a great way to go. Not so on this ship, it was very disorganized. This ship is good if you can get a bargain on the price. But the ports were very good. The tendering process on this ship is done by ticket for the first 1000 guests, and if you don't get one early you will be waiting for hours. We waited until open tendering and boy was that a mistake. Just know what to expect before you go.

Ports of call

Make sure to get a tender ticket early, because they only use 2 tenders. They are large, but by the time they load them it takes forever. Also about half way through the process, they call all of the later ship tours, and that alone takes about 1hour. We hired a cab for 10.00 and went to Chankannab Lagoon snorkeling. This area was hit extremely hard by hurricane Wilma last year, and you can still see the evidence of it. We had been to the lagoon before the hurricane, it was very lush and jungle like. It is not that way anymore, but the beach is still beautiful and the snorkeling is still great. You can rent equipment there, or bring your own. They have nice chairs and palapas to sit under. There are restaurants and you can swim with the dolphins for an additional fee. It was 16.00 to get in for adults and children were 8.00.

We rented a car and went bird watching at Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary. We hired a guide and a boat at the Birds Eye View Lodge. We had a 3 hour boat tour saw not only many species of birds, but howler monkeys, croccodiles, and iguanas. It is about a 1 hour drive from the port. Well worth the drive, and we were the only ones there from the ship, so no crowds.
Don't Miss: Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary if you are interested in wildlife.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

We rented a car and drove to the Mayan ruins of Uxmal about 1.5 hours from the cruise terminal. It was well worth the drive, and much less crowded then Chichen Itza, and just as magnificent. There is a car rental office at the cruise terminal, so renting a car was very easy, and much cheaper then a ship tour.

Pros: The food was excellent; the ports were nice; the stateroom staff was very effecient

Cons: The show quality was poor; the dinning room service was extremely slow and disorganized; tendering in Cozumel was very slow
