Norwegian Dawn

Sail date: May 11, 2018

Ship: Norwegian Dawn

Cabin type: Oceanview

Cabin number: 8562

Review summary

We had a good time but Norwegian has become really petty in many ways. For one, they don't even allow passengers to bring on bottled water, much less any wine or liquor. Really? Bottled water is a problem. Well, I guess it is when they can sell bottled water for exorbitant prices onboard.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The main dining rooms were very good. It's advisable to make a reservation even for the main dining rooms. The food was excellent. The specialty restaurants such as Cagney's and La Cucina are overpriced and no better than less expensive alternatives at home. Los Lobos is the exception. Its prices were reasonable, the selection is good, and the guacamole (made at tableside) is delicious.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
If you like bingo and imitation game show games, you will enjoy the onboard activities. We don't.

Service and Staff

They were all great, except for one problem which I'll discuss. They are such hard-working people and go the extra mile to please passengers. The one exception was the purser's desk which gave us incorrect information on a critical issue.

Ship tip

Our cabin wasn't really obstructed in the way one would usually consider obstructed. The deck outside the cabin ended at an electrical room so the view to the right was a little blocked but the rest of the view was fine.

We live here so, no, we didn't go on an excursion.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

Enough to do and if you find you need more there was a free ferry to St. George or you can buy a ferry ticket to Hamilton.

Thanks for sharing your cruise with us.

The only folks who get free water are the ones in suites (The Haven). If not, I would be sneaking a case of vodka on in water bottles.

Can bring those small brita filters you stick in sports mug- least it filters water and can pop in one of those powdered flavored like Crystal light. Sounds like a lot of work but really isn't and doesn't take up much room in suitcase. Just suggestions.

Thanks for the review. We'll be doing that cruise in about three weeks. Los Lobos seems to be a common high praise item. We like the main dining fare well enough we usually only do one a la carte dining option (sushi) per cruise and are quite happy. The bottled water thing is spelled out pretty well in the 'dos and donts' and we've never really found it to be a problem. Never had a problem getting a glass of ice water at any bar, with meals or snacks, or in the Garden Cafe. Does seem to be something people talk about, though. I dunno... Guess I figure if I can drop $3000 plus on a cruise, excursions and shopping, transportation to the port, and at least 1 hotel stay, I can afford to buy a few bottles if water even at cruise ship prices. Or I could also bring (or purchase on board) my own water bottle and fill it in the Garden Cafe. Just my thoughts. Glad you had a 5 star cruise despite the irritations. We're sure looking forward to ours.

You can bring wine. We brought three bottles last year but had to pay a $15 corkage fee per bottle.
