Bad entertainment, terrible food options, poor service. I'm certainly going back to Royal Caribbean, hope their service hasn't degraded this much. I wish you could pay extra for the old service, where they really took care of you. Too bad we just got to Silver level, because I'm not booking with NCL for a while.
Embarkation

Embarkation was smooth, but not very welcoming.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining

Breakfast buffet had basically only these options: eggs, sausage, cereal, sliced cheese. No joke. The pastries were dry and old so I'm not counting those. Had to eat at the main room to get some variety. The main rooms had fancy looking small portions but the quality was low. Had to get 2 appetizers and sometimes 2 meals to make a full adult meal (I'm 6ft 185lb so it's not like I eat big meals).
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Not much for the kids except the kids club which was a lot of fun but if you expect any kind of variety, it's simply not there.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
One of the comedians was so bad, people would get up and leave. Just not funny. Only 1 good show the whole trip - the main show on the last night.
Children's Programs

Kids loved the kids club.
Service and Staff
1 out of 5
Bed wasn't made until 5.30pm on one night and we were gone the whole day. The pre-tipping ruined the service. No funny towel animals for the kids. They used to put up the bunk beds, not anymore. The service is minimal. Oh and enjoy your wifi - it works 25% of the time - even the streaming package. Language barrier was more of a problem on this ship.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Ship was well organized.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
A bit cramped to get past the bed and having the bunk bed always open was annoying.
Ship tip
Lower your expectations, and get the drink package.
Getting off the ship was a mess. It's like they don't know how to do it, the lines were a mess and everyone was confused. Not enough staff to help organize.
The housekeeper was slow on our trip also. But we asked what was the issue and we was informed that they have doubled the rooms and management cut the area to one housekeeper. They need to at least more housekeeper that could make it a much better trip. Thanks for sharing
I too, sailed on Breakaway, Jan. 2023 and found it to be disappointing- but other NCL ships were AMAZING. The Breakaway seemed cramped, loud, over crowdedness in small small spaces, and food options were not as good as other NCL ships. My NCL sailing to Alaska was a 4☆ experience, for sure sure. Breakaway, 1☆.
I was on the Breakaway in May of this year and had a completely different experience. The food was good, we had great service, never had a problem with communication, and enjoyed the entertainment. Sorry your experience was so disappointing.
Royal Caribbean is definitely top notch in hospitality. Just returned from a 6-night Western Caribbean trip and could not even think of anything negative. Tons of activities, fabulous food (dining room and buffet), and super staff!
I fail to see any issue with smaller portions. It prevents as much waste. As you can have as many dishes as you want for no charge, what is the problem? Personally I think it’s smart and have always found them to be sufficient, and in the odd instance where they are not just get another.
