As this was my first cruise, I learned a lot. I can’t wait to do it again. I learned what not to do next time. Overall it was still a great time with my mom, and we met a lot of great people!
Embarkation
4 out of 5
A little lengthy wait time in a big crowded room…
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Food was great…however, was a little disappointed with the specialty dining. You pay the extra money to get this as part of your package. Then when you get to said specialty dining establishments, there are “up charges” for the items you actually want! For example at Oceans Blue, the Lobster and crab were $25-30 extra! It wasn’t that I couldn’t pay the extra, it was the principal behind it! Aggravating!
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
The pool was always extremely crowded, and the kids were always in the adult pool because half of their pool was “closed” and roped off. Also, the daily activities were less than desirable in my opinion. For adults, they had some that I was interested in, but they seemed more geared to the younger generation/kids. For example, silly cruise director decorating a cake, magic show, art class…it just wasn’t anything that was appealing. What ever happened to learning to make towel art? Cooking classes?
Entertainment
1 out of 5
Heard the shows were amazing. Our schedule never worked out to be able to attend any. I did want to mention that the onboard musicians were a little less than desirable.
Children's Programs
Did not travel with children, however, this cruise seemed to be geared for children, which was what I was getting away from for the week, lol!
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our room stewards (we had two), were amazing! We were traveling with health issues, and they went above and beyond to meet our needs, and assist us with what we asked for. Knew our names, and turned us around each and every time they saw us walking down the hallway the wrong way, lol! Also, after asking, made us towel art each night, and gave us robes and extra blankets for our room!
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Did not see one spec of dirt the entire time on this ship! The cleanliness was amazing! They are doing a fantastic job to keep things safe and clean!
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Very comfortable. Balcony could be bigger, but all and all, the two of us stayed the week comfortably.
Eww. Normally I love NOLA, however, because of the final four, we were stuck in a very nasty “motel” that cost hundreds of dollars that we could not wait to check out of in the morning!!
Very “touristy”. Constantly being asked for money (even in the bathroom at Senor Frogs). Constantly asked if we wanted to by drugs and if we wanted boyfriends. All and all it was ok and we can say been there done that.
The Captain came on the loud speaker the morning of the day we were to port here, and said that it was his decision, and because another ship (Royal Caribbean), had taken our slip, he felt it unsafe to try and port. So we instead “floated about” for the day. To me it was like a pissing contest between the two captains. The other NCL ship (Dawn), that was on the same itinerary as us, just flip flopped their Belize and Honduras days. But no, ai had to lose out on my favorite excursion. :(
I absolutely loved the scenery here! Only drawback was the excursion we booked. It was an hour boat ride, then an hour bus ride. The excursion was just ok. I did get to see Belize some on the boat and bus, but I felt as if it ate up a lot of my time.
Absolutely beautiful. Very small for the part I got to see. I didn’t go to far, as the port time for some reason on this day was only for a few hours. I hated that because I wish I had more time to explore.
I felt as if I was waiting in line for a ride at Disney (with my luggage..because we drove we had it with us). We started in the line at a little after 7:00 a.m., and we didn’t get through customs and to our car until close to 9! It winded through two floors and through restaurants and the casino! It was ridiculous!
I am sorry to heat there were disappointments with your 1st cruise. It does state on the menu on the website and app that you have to pay extra for certain items. It is always good to ask for on-board credit for holiday and birthday gifts prior to cruising. The Breakway is much larger than the Dawn, so that's why it could dock. Swapping ports is rarely done. Perhaps there was an issue the RCL ship that's why it couldn't leave port. I hope you give NCL or another cruise company a try I'm sure you'll find the right cruise.
