Review summary

Great, relaxing cruise thanks to low capacity! The staff was all excellent, friendly and helpful. And thanks to others canceling, the ship was probably half full which allowed us to get upgraded to the Haven. It was relaxing and the weather was great and that’s what it was all about for us! Now we’re back in frigid Chicago!

Embarkation

My main quip is that no one told me the Covid testing site was across the street from the port so we had carried our luggage to the port and then had to walk back to the testing site. There was about a 15min wait outside but once we made it in, the test was quick and the results were ready within 20min. By the time we reached the port it was a quick check in process and we were on the ship faster than any previous trip!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
No need for any buffets on this cruise! We got upgraded to the Haven so had most of our meals there. It would be nice if they changed the menu for more variety, but otherwise the food was great there. The servers were all wonderful! And the restaurant was never full, less than half the tables were were full at the busiest time. We had Teppanyaki and that was great, again it was only about half full and the chef did a good job of entertaining and preparing a nice meal. We went for La Cucina and that was unimpressive as far as the menu selections though I enjoyed my food and the service was good.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Pools were great, with no kids under 5 to have accidents in them! There was never a wait for ropes course so we went up several times. There were no stage shows due to Covid which was fine by us since we never go to those. The casino was dead which at least made it easy to get a seat, but it was kind of boring playing alone!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the staff was wonderful and tried extra hard to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Bringing more drinks before we even ordered them and stuff like that!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship and our rooms were very clean. There is no way the ship wasn’t cleaner than any public venue you would go to on land.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Absolutely outstanding state room!

Ship tip

Didn’t realize all the fun stuff at O’Sheahan’s till the last night. Bowling, skeeball, darts, etc. as well enjoying the waterfront outdoor areas.

Ports of call

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

I liked Roatan more on previous trips. It was Crowded here with at least 5 ships on that day. Everything took a long time. Getting our shuttle to Little French Key, check in at Little French Key, and forget about getting food: you might get it next week! They were not sufficiently staffed to handle all these ships. We ended up returning to the ship early to get a late lunch.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

3 out of 5
Wow it was incredibly crowded here given Covid. The port is like a maze that tries to keep you from leaving. We walked around in circles and eventually just went back to the ship since we had a short stay here due to New Years Eve.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
There is a lot to do here. We chose to go snorkeling but unfortunately it was very windy and the water was rough. But they else took us to the sand bar El Cielo which was relaxing and beautiful.

New Orleans, Louisiana

5 out of 5
Nice town to depart from given all the history, nightlife, and restaurants. And the cruise terminal is right in downtown.

Harvest Caye, Belize

4 out of 5
Beautiful island and plenty of space for everyone without being crowded. The sun was hot and the pool was refreshing. Once again, though, the restaurants were struggling with staff shortages and you had to wait hours to get served. Better off walking back to the ship for lunch.

Disembarkation

With the Haven upgrade, it was just a few minutes to walk off the ship.

Congratulations on your upgrade. I do enjoy the fewer passengers, but it can’t last forever. Appreciate your feedback.
