Review summary

Norwegian has some great things. But the fun lacks

Embarkation

1 out of 5
Very poorly organized and protracted process. Some of it was understandable with screenings for Coronavirus. However the people were so slow that it took us almost 50 minutes from drop off to getting on the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The Brazilian steakhouse was very good. The pineapple was absolutely the best part of the entire meal. The Manhattan Room, Savor, and Taste on the other hand were horrible. Food was always cold and took almost three hours to get through dinner. Buffet food was better than DRs, but even that was not great.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Paquito the cruise director was no existent and worse the ship had absolutely zero feeling of fun anywhere. It was not good.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The production of “Six” and the band in Syd Norman’s “Switch” were fantastic. Natural Mystic was also great but didn’t play often enough.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Hands down, the worst I’ve ever experienced on any ship anywhere. All staff from stewards, to waiters, to bartenders, to officers... absolutely abysmal.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
The ship was nicely designed but overbooked. Also, the smoke smell from the areas on 678 and the areas at Spice and on the pool deck were incredible overpowering. Need to close in those areas and not allow it to permeate everything. The bars and specialty areas (Raw Bar, Maltings, Shakers, Mixx, etc) were never open during the day and it was a waste of these bars.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin balcony was an angled one and it was much more spacious than normal. The room was always at a nice temperature and even with 3 people was easy to move around in. There was a consistent sewage smell in the restroom.

Ship tip

Bring cash and tip the people that actually assist you. The bartenders got much better and faster once there was a $20 bill in their hand. Make sure you also take a good portion of time to lodge your poor experiences with guest services.

Ports of call

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

3 out of 5
This is a port I always wanted to see and I’m glad I did. Went to Cane Garden Bay. Small beach and a very nice bar right near the sand. However, $30 cab ride and then $15 for lounge chairs and and umbrella was a bit pricey. Worse was the pricing for food and beer. Almost $100 spent there. Glad I went, but I won’t go back.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

5 out of 5
Without question, the best originate island I’ve ever seen. We had a villa on the front side of the island facing the ship and the Royal Caribbean private island, Coco Cay. This was the most beautiful lagoon setup along with wonderful beach and accommodations. Mostly, the bar staff was quick, but not until they got tipped. The private full bathroom was an amazingly great amenity, and the fact that you didn’t need to carry towels or beach toys or water off the ship, made this even better. Beverage package is accepted here and the buffet food was AMAZING

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

3 out of 5
Nice beach at Maegans Bay but an incredibly long and treacherous ride. Can’t begin to describe how awful the cab driver was. He was driving almost 40 MPH over the posted speed limits. The beach itself was fine but beer was overpriced at almost $7 per. Again, glad I visited, but I don’t need to go back.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Again, amazingly disorganized and an extreme lack of people telling you where to go. They marched us all over the ship only to eventually let us out on the same area they brought us in on when we boarded. Seems we could have just started there.

Well you can't please everyone. We are sailing on the Breakaway on the 28th. We plan on having fun, not going to wait for someone to tell us when to have fun. March 28th can't come fast enough. 😊

Sad, Ive only cruised on NCL And I thought the service was great. And the Stewart's were nice. It takes a while to get things sometimes but not that long. Fun is what you make it.

Sounds like you need the fun ship (Carnival)! We prefer Carnival & RC over NCL. Going on breakaway in 27 days...we will make the best of it but I'm seeing a ton of these types of reviews.

How are the angled balcony? Is it bigger

We're on the Breakaway on April 11th, and we have the angled balcony as well. What was your room number? Also do they still have soap and shampoo in the shower?

Agree Norwegian food is very disappointing and they have no feeling of fun compared to Carnival. I use Norwegian when they comp me a cruise, but would never choose to pay for a cruise with them.
