We have cruised before on the Getaway and loved the ship so when this cruise on the Breakaway came up we were pleased to try it. Love the layout, the buffet is really well organised, none of that big bunch in the middle, this goes up one side and down the other - and they have a bar half way down so you can get a drink with dinner. Love the O'Sheans area overall and good food available everywhere. I did wonder about the folks in the Atrium, turned the microphone up to deafening levels then shouted into it - drove people away as it was painful.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Kerbside to ship took about twenty minutes, the usual organised chaos but entirely pleasant.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Food onboard, from the Buffet to the MDR's was uniformly excellent. My wife - the fussiest eater in the world - loved it all, and if she is happy then i am happy.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Thought the pools and the area around them was very small for a ship this size. If you wanted to lay in the sun there was virtually nowhere with any shade unless you were up at the crack of dawn to get a coveted bed.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Only saw 'Rock of Ages' which, despite our better judgement we saw before dinner one night. The participants were full of enthusiasm and energy and songs/singing were really good. If you have a chance go and see it, you won't regret it.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Every one we met, without exception, was pleasant and smiley and ready (and willing) to talk at any time. Hands down the best ships staff we have encountered.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship was recently refurbished i think, certainly within the last year or two, and it was in very good condition everywhere. I don't think i saw a single speck of dirt on the entire ship! We love the layout of this ship (apart from the upper deck/pool area) and the buffet is one of the best designed afloat.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Standard balcony cabin, bathroom was good, supplied with all needed soaps etc and a glass shower enclosure. Cabin was supplied with tea/coffee/milk etc, all replenished every day as well as a bottle of water. We had a fairly extensive room service menu (for a delivery charge) but didn't use it. Balcony was small and included two chairs and a tiny table, on the whole same as just about every other balcony cabin we have ever had. It costs an extortionate amount to have a balcony but my wife likes to sit out and read her book when at sea and swears it is worth it!
Ship tip
Don't get caught up in using the buffet, this ship is "freestyle" and you can go into any dining room without dressing up so go for it!
Utterly different to what i thought it would be, great old buildings and clean, tidy and friendly people everywhere. (huge Walgreens at the end of the jetty - who knew)
The queue was endlesssssssssss but really organised. The bus we were meeting to take us to the airport was waiting as promised, can't ask for more than that.
