Very confused by bad reviews of the Breakaway. We can’t say enough about the the service or the ship. We had a wonderful time! The only bad part was that the cruise ended and we had to leave the Breakaway!!!
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Check in was very easy and fast. We were assigned a boarding number and then waited 30-45 minutes to board the ship. Terminal was crowded and chaotic with little or no direction from anyone at NCL. Hopefully, their new terminal will run more smoothly.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We were quite impressed with the main dining room, Manhattan. We mostly ate dinner around 7:30 or 8:00. Seated immediately. Service was A plus. Food was very good! We also tried Savor for lunch. Again, service was top notch and food was very good. O’Sheehan’s service was also very good. This is a fun spot on the ship because you can also see and hear the fun activities in the atrium. The Garden Cafe (buffet) was kept immaculate and the food was always replenished and fresh. The tables are cleared and cleaned very quickly. We enjoyed lunch at the buffet. Great place to grab a burger or slice of pizza. It can get very crowded but we never had trouble finding a table. We ate every breakfast on top deck at Magaritaville. The buffet is smaller bu has everything you need for a great breakfast. We enjoyed the peaceful outdoor atmosphere!
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
We spent our sea days at Spice H20. Top deck, adults only. No pool, but it does have hot tubs, rainfall showers and an awesome waterfall feature, all great for cooling off! The atrium had constant fun activities with plenty of seating and extra seating at O’Sheehan’s for enjoying the atrium shows. Casino was a lot of fun. Plenty of give and take on the machines. Drink was the best I’ve ever seen in any casino! The servers were on the ball. The casino hosts were fun and personable!
Entertainment
4 out of 5
We saw Burn the Floor and Rock of Ages in the main theater. Both shows were very good. Talented singers and dancers. Make reservations online before your trip and get there a half hour early for good seating.
Children's Programs
We had no children.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Service on board the ship was A plus. Restaurants, bars and our room steward were on the ball and helped make our vacation wonderful.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Getting around the ship is fairly easy to master. The entire ship is unbelievably immaculate.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Cabin was kept very clean by our awesome steward, Ryan. Cabin was cleaned early in the day and restocked with towels, etc twice a day without fail. Room has abundant storage options. Our only complaint was the awkward position of the closet to the bed. Hard to look in the closet with bed so close.
Ship tip
Enjoy breakfast for free at Margaritaville on the top deck. Outside and never crowded!
Beautiful place. I am opposed to NCL having contracted the island out and charging their passengers for food and drink that they’ve paid for in their cruise.
Very nice port with nice pool. Unfortunately, we are beach people and have never seen seagrass as bad as it is in parts of Mexico right now. It smells and looks gross. Everybody seems to be doing their best to get rid of it, but I think they are fighting a losing battle!
Wonder if the workers in the Miami area just get so uncomfortably hot in the summer months. I know when our ship docked in Miami in the wee hours of the morning, it was so hot and humid that people were asking us how we could live in FL in the summer. That could explain why some of the workers were “off.”
I also loved the Breakaway when I sailed on her out of NOLA last year. Now I’ll be on her in 3 weeks out of Miami. People will always find something to complain about and let it affect their vacation. I’ve never had a bad experience and just go with the flow.
This was our 4th time on The Breakaway ~ first time sailing from Miami. The Breakaway has been our “Summertime Home” for the last 4 years & we love her! Love the crew & staffers once on board. Not sure why, but the NCL folks we encountered while at port & Miami airport greeters/transfer hosts were a bit “off” ...(?)
Not as knowledgeable, customer service friendly or hospitable as we’ve become accustomed to. We just made “Platinum” WooHoo!! after this last cruise, and the reason we’ve come back again & again is due in large part because of NCL’s amazing customer service. At first, I just assumed it was us, due to our lack of sleep, since we’d been up & traveling since 4 am, DST. But when we got on our transfer bus, even that driver was rude & snarky. At this port we got the impression that those workers felt they were doing us “tourists” a favor by being there. So NOT NCL !! Overall we had a great time, because that’s what we went there for.....regardless of a few “hiccups” along the way. And we’re already booked for next years vacation on The Encore, NCL’s new ship ! Why ? We love the brand, live to cruise & look forward to each new cruise & the unique experience it will bring! Happy Sails y’all!! 🏝🛳🏖
I agree with you in terms of how people complain about the ship! It is one of the nicest ships the New Orleans port has EVER seen and I cannot wait for the Getaway, her sister ship to arrive. I will be going on the Getaway for Mardi Gras this year. I can’t wait! I hope the embarkment portion of the cruise goes as smoothly. I know that is the most hectic and most frustrating part of the cruise, by far. When I went on Carnival Dream, it was the WORST experience I think I ever had!! When Royal Caribbean had Serenade of the Seas in port, it was VERY easy and only took roughly 15 to embark! Once again, thank you for your more than fair review!
