The ship was aweful but our excursions on land made the trip overall a good experience.

Review summary

This was my 4th cruise with NCL. This last cruise was 10 days on the Breakaway ship and I must say, this ship sucks! All of the help desks (excursions, guests services, etc) plus the internet cafe are located in the Atrium which has a very loud sound system that is often in use for entertainment. This means while you are trying to get some help from NCL staff or using the internet cafe, you have a very loud sound system making it difficult for you to hear the staff or concentrate on your internet browsing. (I had poor wifi signal in my cabin) Its literally like you are inside a night club while using the internet cafe or seeking help at a help desk. Even the library with its closed doors is impacted, clearly a distraction for anyone trying to read in the library. Very poor layout design that really makes you question how someone could screw up this badly with the ships layout. Another major problem was the smell of raw sewage on the ship. Some areas of the ship were plagued with the smell of poop!!! There was vomit in our hallway that never got cleaned up! It was there for 2 days and was still there when we disembarked! WTF NCL??? About four hours after dinner at an on board restaurant, Moderno, I became very sick with diarrhea and vomiting. I was sick for the last few days of the cruise and just now today, 3 days after departure has my stomach returned to normal. And no, I didnt drink the water in Mexico but thats what it felt like! Many people on the ship were sick and you could not ride an elevator or visit the buffet without being around sick people coughing, I didnt trust eating anything on board the last few days and ate only enough to get by until I could get off the ship.

The rock of ages show did not live up to the hype at all. The cirque dreams show cost extra, i think it was $50+ per person and included dinner, which we already had a dining package so I wasnt about to pay out over $100 to particpate in what should have been inclusive.

Service and Staff

There was a noticeable decline in the quality of the food and service. Day 1 was great but by day 8 I just wanted off the ship already. I considered not getting back on the ship in Jamaica and just flying home.

Ship Quality

Very dirty, vomit left uncleaned in our hallway for 2 days and the ships layout was baffling at best.

Cabin / Stateroom

Typical balcony cabin compared to other ships.

We arrived but were not allowed to tinder to shore due to the captain not being able to position the ship properly to avoid the swells which seemed light to moderate at most.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

This place is a SHAME!!! This could be such a beautiful country but its trashy, trash everywhere on the road sides. The people of Jamaica need to to put the weed down for a day and pick up their trash. The place looks like one big ghetto. You should be ashamed Jamaica!
