Review summary

My husband and I, who have both cruised Carnival and Royal Caribbean before, thought the cruise was not worth the amount we paid for it. I was nice but the first day all the shows and restaurants, that you have to pay EXTRA for, were already all booked. So Friday for my birthday dinner the idea to do a nice seafood restaurant went out the window. So dining room we went every night and it took 2+ hours every night to get/eat dinner, so ridiculous. The entertainment was just ok and you had to reserve that too, which we had never heard of having to do before on our other cruises. I just feel the quality of the food, service, and entertainment was not at all what I was expecting for the amount we paid. We will not be cruising Norwegian again.

This is our first cruise coming up in April and I even know to book specialty dining 90 days in advance. Just to be on the safe side and have a table for your birthday you guys should've reserved in advance. Can't get mad at the obvious, especially when you're dining against 3900 ppl 😂

There is nothing "freestyle" about making reservations and planning every event before you board the ship.

Why can't I edit my comment? Autocomplete changed waterslide to waterside so.

They could put more entertainment onboard if they would set topside theaters where they have waterside so. Kind of like the opera house in Sydney.

Its funny how many people appear to get offended when someone states a differing opinion about the cruise.

cruisingluvcouple yes! Most restaurants were minimal wait when I wanted to get in one though even when I was on the Breakaway last Nov I made all reservations for shows and specialty dinning shortly after the 90 days before the cruise. My next cruise on the Epic in January is less than 90 days so I am all set for my shows and dinning! I can't imagine anyone winging it and expecting it to be perfection. Though the buffet and complimentary dinning places are always available during open hours. Some 24/7!

Reservations for the shows insures you a seat and not being turned away at the door. With reservations you can better plan your cruise Our June Breakaway cruise was full but we managed to secure specialty dinner reservations during the cruise. We ate later than normal but that was expected. Next time we will reserve dinner times earlier. We were impressed that there was NO WAIT at our reserved time. When there was an unreserved wait, they typically provide a beeper so you are not stuck in line. Our biggest concrn after the cruise is deciding which ship and itinerary for our next cruise. Brian

I have walked on the breakaway during holiday season and booked my specialty restaurants and booked my shows on the first day. No issues at all. Only reason we were in the dining room for 2 hours or so was because we were enjoying family time talking and laughing. I've never had one issue on this ship .. Had a,blast on it.

tntfl: I think the way ships are getting bigger and more people but the entertainment venue capacity is staying the same..... the reservation system is here to stay.

Cracks me up people whine and complain it takes to long to eat....well then go to the buffet ....plus who really cares if it takes a while....where do u have to be..you gotta go where the ship goes anyways....people you are on vacation, chill out and relax...I always tell the kids when we walk on the ship we are now on island time and no rushing around

I don't understand all the comments about 2 hours to dine It's not fast food you can not go to a fine dining restaurant on land and eat in less than 2 hours Plan ahead book on line and time your meals with the shows If your in a hurry go to the buffet

The whole making reservations idea for entertainment on a cruise is a bust and needs to go away fast.

cruisincouple06    8 years ago

We just got off of the breakaway and walked right into the main dinning rooms without a reservation and there were 5 of us...for some of the shows we had no reservations and went right in....plus why wait to get on board and reserve stuff you can do it before you even left the house so sounds like you should have done some homework before you left

On the bigger ships of RC, you must also reserve shows and dinner. Just so you know if you decide to go with RC next time.
